Panasonic 100-300mm f4.0-5.6 Lumix G Vario Lens offers a long zoom range of 100-300mm (35mm camera equivalent: 200-600mm) while achieving minimum distortion and chromatic aberration by implementing advanced lens system including an ED (Extra Low Dispersion) lens. It incorporates Panasonic's MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer), which makes it easy to shoot super clear shots even in telephoto shooting or in low-lit situations without using a tripod by suppressing the blur caused by a hand shake. 7 aperture blades consists a circular aperture diaphragm and produces an attractive smoothness in out-of-focus areas even shooting at large aperture settings. This lens system uses multi-coated lens elements that reduce ghosts and flare to an absolute minimum, helping deliver a high optical performance. More
When mounted on LUMIX G Micro System cameras, the LUMIX G VARIO 100-300mm / F4.0-5.6 / MEGA O.I.S. allows use of the advanced contrast AF system, which includes a Face Recognition function, for more convenient, more enjoyable shooting.
The LUMIX G VARIO 100-300mm / F4.0-5.6 / MEGA O.I.S. complies with the Micro Four Thirds System, an interchangeable lens camera system that was designed and developed to optimize the characteristics of digital technology. Despite its extremely compact size and superb optical performance, this lens brings out the full capabilities of the 4/3-type image sensor, achieves smoother Live View in superb combination with camera’s body and allows a variety of unique features such as the contrast AF function of LUMIX G Micro System cameras.

Comments about Panasonic 100-300mm f4.0-5.6 LUMIX G Vario Lens - Micro Four Thirds Fit:
I bought a lens holder from Germany so the lens is supported as its a bit heavy just to have on the four thirds camera. That's sharpened up the photographs no end but does add a bit to the weight!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Everything I had hoped for and more

About Me Hobbyist/Enthusiast, Professional
First of all, if you are considering this lens you will have a Micro Four Thirds camera or you are considering one. I have a Panasonic G6 with a 14-140 lens and this seemed to be the ideal additional lens for me. It is! I have now used it for music gig shots in low light, nature shots - flowers, butterflies and birds, and motorcycle racing shots. In all cases the results have been excellent but for me, it's the convenience of having such a high powered telephoto lens in such a compact size. At Donington Park last weekend I was alongside people with huge 35mm lenses (also hugely expensive). One had a Nikon with a teleconverter to make it up to 500mm focal length but this dropped the maximum aperture to f5,6. My lens is a fraction of the size and weight yet is equivalent to 600mm and f5.6. It's easy to handle and to pan shots. Add to that the amazingly bright and clear live view on the camera and it is certainly a case of size matter - in reverse. That's unless you want to pose with your professional looking kit. I'm sure they didn't notice me but I bet I got more good pictures! The zoom operation is not as smooth as it could be but I haven't marked it down for this because I'm so delighted with everything else.

Super telephoto at a sensible price
I bought it to cover Cricket and other long range sports. It is remarkably light and easy to use and gives good results. Linked to a Panasonic Lumix G5 it gives excellent results and can be used hand-held all afternoon.

Have used this lens since I received it,for wild life shots and nature in general. It has surpassed my expectations and gave great results. To be honest I can not fault thi s lens.
Great super zoom for the money
from Newcastle upon Tyne
I have this lens paired with a Panasonic GX1, with the EVF, so it looks somewhat out of proportion, but as it is fairly light, this isn't a problem.I was a little sceptical of the results I was expecting, but I am happy with the results. The image stabilisation helps and I tend to use a monopod.Okay this is not an L series Canon lens, but then again it is about a third of the price. I would say that this is a great compromise, small enough to carry in your bag, just in case.
Excellent Item. Excellent Service.Thank

Panasonic 100-300 M4/3 lens
I bought this lens to complement the other lenses I have bought for my Panasonic GX1 camera. I was tempted by the thought of owning a 600mm (equivalent)lens small enough to able to carry around with me comfortably. When the first lens arrived the box that it was in was damaged. I took the lens out and tested it by shooting some local wildlife. I was disappointed with the results and returned the lens to WEX who replaced it with another. I have tested this and it would seem that the original lens had nothing wrong with it. I think I may have set my expectations too high for this lens (I have a Nikkor 300mm F2.8 and a 500mm F4.0) and it is unrealistic to compare it to my Nikkors?Having said that this lens is capable of turning in some very pleasing results if handled carefully. Panasonic make no claims for the effectiveness of the VR function in this lens and it is difficult to tell just what it is doing (more testing needed?). So I would suggest that the lens is used with an appropriately high shutter speed (at least 1/1000th at "600mm") and stopped down a little, at which point it gives very good results indeed. It is a pity that there isn't a tripod ring available for this lens as I am sure that one would be of benefit. Whilst the lens isn't very heavy it does feel a little odd mounting this on my GX1 and then mounting the pair on a heavy duty tripod and head combination. So this is something that I would recommend to a friend with the caution that you treat it like a full size 600mm and use with care.

Bargain wildlife zoom!
I bought this to use with a GH2 (and now G5 as well) for wildlife. It has an equivalent field of view to a 200-600mm lens in "full frame" terms and as a result is a very versatile addition to my kit.The AF is fast, completely internal (no rotating bits on the outside) and very quiet. In good light it's very accurate but it can hunt a bit in poor contrast conditions - you sometimes have to find something for it to lock on to. I've taken wildlife shots I'm really happy with already - and this is coming from a Canon 7D and 400mm f5.6 L lens! AF tracking isn't so hot, but that's as much down to the bodies as the lens. Micro 4/3 has a way to go yet in this area. The stabiliser is very effective indeed, allowing me to get down to 1/50s if I'm careful. If you're a big video shooter though, don't use it handheld as the stabiliser noise comes through in the footage - best used on a tripod with the OIS off.For hand-held stills it balances really well on the GH2 or the G5 and is just so easy to carry around.Image quality is really good, even at f5.6 on the 300mm end. I would suggest that if you're not happy with the long end it could be a bad sample or perhaps the shutter speed used was too low.In a nutshell this is a great lens for the micro 4/3 system, in my opinion. I'm really happy I bought one and have no desire to sell it any time soon!Ideally I'd give it 4.5 stars, as it's not quite perfect, but 4 stars would be too low!
