The Panasonic 14-42mm f3.5-5.6 ASPH O.I.S Micro Four Thirds Lens is a standard zoom interchangeable lens designed specifically for the Micro Four Thirds format. It’s ultra-compact and extreme lightweight design offers a versatile zoom range of 14-42mm (28-84mm on 35mm format) suitable for all areas of photography. The lens features superb image rendering for lifelike textures, crisp edge-to-edge contrast, a unique Nano Surface Coating for minimal ghosts and flaring and natural atmospheres with remarkable transparency. Incorporated in the lens is Panasonics Mega O.I.S. (optical image stabilizer), which makes it easy to shoot super sharp shots even in low-lit conditions by suppressing blur caused by hand shake. More
It's a new cutting-edge interchangeable lens LUMIX G X VARIO PZ 14-42mm/F3.5-5.6 ASPH./POWER O.I.S. with electric-powered zoom operation from the new premium lens brand “X” for LUMIX G Micro System that complies with Micro Four Thirds System standard. Crystallizing Panasonic's optical technologies, new premium lens brand “X” features superb image rendering for lifelike textures, crisp edge-to-edge contrast, a unique Nano Surface Coating for minimal ghosts and flaring and natural atmospheres with remarkable transparency.
Comprising of 9 lenses in 8 groups, the lens system features excellent contrast at entire zoom range. The inclusion of 4 aspherical lenses that helps achieving the downsizing of lens unit also improves optical performance by minimizing distortion, even at the 28 mm wide end. The 2 ED lenses effectively compensates for the chromatic aberration. And, the retractable-type zoom lens boasts outstanding compactness with approx. 26.8 mm** in length and approx. 95g in weight to realize ultra-high mobility.
Panasonic's Nano Surface Coating technology is adopted to minimize the reflection at entire visual light range (380nm-780nm) by applying the extra-low refractive index coating with nano-sized structure on the surface of the lens. It results in the super clear image with dramatic reduction of ghost and flare.
Adopting an inner focus system driven by a stepping motor, the superior optical design realizes outstanding smoothness to support the high speed AF system of LUMIX G cameras. It achieves approx. 0.1 second Light Speed AF*** thanks to the downsizing of focus lens and its amount of movement. By speeding up the aperture control, shutter time lag is also shortened by approx. 40% compared with the LUMIX G VARIO 14-42mm/F3.5-5.6 ASPH. /MEGA O.I.S..****

Comments about Panasonic LUMIX 14-42mm f3.5-5.6 G X ASPH. O.I.S Micro Four Thirds Lens:
I purchased the Panasonic LUMIX 14-42mm f3.5-5.6 G X ASPH. O.I.S Micro Four Thirds Lens for use on my Panasonic GX1 camera. I already have the Lumix 45-175mm f3.5- 5.6 G X lens. The two lenses provide a light weight kit which provides good coverage, especially portable. The 42-45mm lens is very compact. The electronic zoom controls work very well & are very quiet in operation. The image quality is fair wide open and improves as you stop down. F8.0 producing the best image quality images. However the lens is capable of producing good quality pictures through out the zoom range. The Panasonic image stabilisation is also very effective with this lens and I did not experience any problems with double image effect.I like this lens very much & I am very pleased with my purchase, it definitely matches up to my expectations. It also works very well on my Olympus OMD- EM5 camera body, providing a compact zoom option when required.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

A great little lens
This is the perfect match to a full-capability Micro 4/3 camera like the GH2. Powered off it's not much larger or heavier than the tiny Panasonic "pancake" primes. Image quality seems very good, reasonably sharp and very little geometric distortion or chromatic aberration. I haven't seen any sign of the blurring which has been reported with some other cameras. I'm much more happy with this lens than with my roughly equivalent Canon 15-85mm IS, which costs more than twice as much and weighs more than the GH2 and this lens together.Only time will tell how well it stands up to use. It's not weather proof or very strongly built. However so far I'm very pleased.
Cracking lens really easy to carry around but dissapointed that at this price it doesn't include a hood
