Panasonic Lumix DMC-G3 Black Digital Camera with 14-42mm Lens Further Details

Panasonic Lumix DMC-G3 main features

  • LUMIX G Micro System - Interchangeable Lens Digital Camera
  • Superb Image Quality: 16.0-megapixel Live MOS Sensor and Venus Engine FHD
  • The World’s Fastest Light Speed AF** and Advanced Focusing
  • The World’s Smallest and Lightest System Camera*
  • 1920 x 1080 Full HD Video in the AVCHD Format
  • iA (Intelligent Auto) Plus for Easy Manual Adjustment
  • Creative Control and Photo Style to Express Your Own Creativity

Improvements from the G2 include:

  • Increased image quality when shooting at a higher ISO 160-16400
  • A slight increase in burst mode speed when shot at full resolution. The Panasonic G2 shot at 3.2 fps. The Panasonic G3 is capable of shooting at 4fps
  • HD video recording has been improved. The Panasonic G2 recorded at 720p, where as the G3 records at Full HD 1080p recording at 25fps

The DMC-G3 features the newly developed 16.0-megapixel Live MOS sensor which is advantageous for image recording, thanks to a low noise process and a low noise circuit structure. Linking smoothly with the Venus Engine FHD with the advanced image processing, details are kept by optimum synthesizing of the data which is processed with resolution-priority for edge part and NR-priority for smooth part of a picture. You can enjoy stunning image quality even in low-light conditions.

The DMC-G3 features the world’s fastest Light Speed AF of approx. 0.1 second** which is achieved by reducing the detection time for focusing by doubling the drive speed from 60 fps to 120 fps. The full-area focusing, the shooting advantages of the Contrast AF system, lets you focus on the subject in any part of the LCD. Combined with the Touch AF including the Pinpoint AF and MF assist, the DMC-G3 lets you set the subject easily and quickly, and brings the focusing operation closer to your photographic intent.

The DMC-G3, based on the Micro Four Thirds System standard, features its world’s smallest and lightest body.* The mirrorless construction made it possible to add a 1,440,000-dot equivalent LVF (Live View Finder). Both the LVF and the 3.0-inch Free-angle LCD give you a live view of what you’re shooting with a field of view of approx.100%. The main appeal of an interchangeable lens system camera is the ability to achieve a wide range of expression by changing the lens. The DMC-G3 lets you use the line-up of Lumix G / Leica DG lenses.

The DMC-G3 can record high-resolution 1920 x 1080 full HD videos. The AVCHD format features almost twice the recording time in HD quality than the conventional Motion JPEG. A stereo microphone, featuring Dolby Digital Stereo Creator, on the upper body records dynamic, true-to-life stereo audio. The Touch AF in video recording also lets you enjoy professional-like rack focusing. Just by pointing the subject, the focus is shifted it and let it stand out to attract attention.

Good Little Camera but Could be Better.

By Stuphotos

from Southampton.

Pros

  • Superb Definition

Cons

  • Expensive accessories
  • Gives Under Exposure
  • Touch screen

Best Uses

I've had the G3 for a couple of months now but I have to say I prefer my G1.
The G3 gives very sharp and detailed images although I use it with the 14-45mm lens from my G1 which I know is capable of lovely A3 size prints.
The touch screen on the G3 makes it very easy to change settings without noticing-I've since decided I'm not a fan of touch screens at all and this one is too sensitive but the biggest problem is the under exposure the G3 gives. This equally applies to whichever metering type being used.
Every image has to be lightened in processing by at least a stop,(Some considerably more).
I would recommend this camera but with some reservations.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

    from london

    Pros

    • Compact
    • Great image quality
    • Great selection of lenses
    • Portable

    Cons

    • Expensive accessories
    • Expensive spare batteries

    Best Uses

I have just bought this after selling my canon d400. Wow this camera is so much more portable. the kit lens dose have its limits but the camera served me well in a holiday i just took down to devon. It took some great shots mainly landscapes but also some fireworks shots that came out great.

the camera gives all the control of a DSLR and thought I'm still getting used to it the menus are really intuitive.

i have since bought the 45-200mm lens that just rounds out an amazing portable kit.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

      Great little camera

      By Dizzie

      from Chiipenahm

      Pros

      • Quality of pictures
      • Size

      Cons

      • Kits lens - short focal

      Best Uses

I have recently bought this camera with kit lens after selling my rather cumbersome DSLR and lens. What I love about this camera is the size - its perfect. I initially wanted a point and shoot camera, but felt I was missing the feeling of holding a dslr. This Lumix gives you all of the control of a big dslr, without the weight. However, as expected, the quality isn't quite as good as my previous camera but much better than my old point and shoot.

There a a lot of functions with this camera, and I think it will take me a while to get to grips with them, but at the moment I am extremely happy with the performance of this camera and hope to get a better lens (the focal length is a bit short for my liking) in the near future to add to the enjoyment of owning this dinky little camera. One thing I have played with quite a lot is the macro setting. I am getting great results and the depth of field is better than expected.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
