The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX1 joins the popular Lumix G series of interchangeable lens cameras and features a 16.0 megapixel Live MOS sensor, a touch screen interface, an impressive ISO range of 160-28,000, full HD video recording (AVCHD or MP4 format), continuous shooting up to 20fps (at a lower resolution), a stereo mic, a comfortable hand grip, an electronic gauge level and four function (Fn) buttons which can be personalized to suit your needs. Combined with this advanced technology is the advanced AF system with high speed, high accuracy and touch operation. The Panasonic GX1 also packs a neat pop-up flash, manual control and a hotshoe to attach external accessories such as an electronic viewfinder and external flash. Small enough to fit in a jacket pocket, the Panasonic GX1 is the ideal partner for keen photographers looking to get sharp results and take that first step into the mirrorless market. More

Cracking upgrade from the GF1
About Me Semi-professional
Comments about Panasonic LUMIX DMC-GX1 Black Digital Camera Body:
I am primarily a Landscape and Travel photographer so tend to use the camera at lower ISO levels in aperture priority mode. I almost always shoot in RAW format and post process in Lightroom rather than the clunky, slow Silkypix provided with the camera. I would say this camera is excellent for both of these uses and also for street and general photography. This is an excellent camera and if the resolution were only 4Mpixels more my 5D would be straight on [@]. Its weight and size make it the perfect travel companion and excellent for carrying to remote locations. The only thing I don't like is the colour produced by the AWB which is slightly too cool but that can be easily resolved. The body is a strong construction but it doesn't feel quite as good in the hand as the GF1 which is slightly deeper and about 10g heavier. In terms of image quality, if you have a good lens on this body the detail in the images is simply stunning. The micro 4/3 sensor also produces great depth of field even at relatively wide f-stops such as f/7.1. Well done Panasonic.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The First Compact I have Really Liked
By Robert Norbury
About Me Hobbyist/Enthusiast, Professional, Semi amateur, Semi Pro
This is the first compact digital camera that I have owned that delivers the image quality claimed in the blurb. THE PICTURES ARE FANTASTIC!!! Its fairly easy to use, however I don't find the menus that easy to use, sometimes they aren't that intuitive. The buttons for direct access to controls are pretty good.Battery life isn't good. I have bought a bucket load of third party spares. One control I am not happy with is the AF/AE button on the back of the camera, I can't use it in the same way as on my Canon 5D2 ie to lock and hold AF with my thumb whilst locking AE with my finger on the shutter button. I have found a pretty good work-around though. Thats locking AF and AE with my thumb and if I'm not happy with AE use exposure compensation feature. The Program exposure mode always picks very wide apertures so I have to use Aperture priority more than I would like.Below are a couple of links to Flickr slideshows of pictures from the GX1. The ones in the bar were taken the day that I got it and the 20mm lens[@]
