PocketWizard MiniTT1 - Nikon Further Details

The MiniTT1 Transmitter is easy to use; just slide in place and begin to shoot. The new PocketWizard ControlTL™ System interprets the complex i-TTL data being sent through the camera’s hot shoe and digitally transmits it in a reliable radio signal. Change the flash compensation dial on the camera, and those commands pass seamlessly through the system to your remote flash. Adjust your shutter speed, aperture or ISO and the system corrects for those changes. A ratio command set on the flash or command unit passes through the MiniTT1 to set the remotes. PocketWizard ControlTL radio communication allows you to shoot farther, faster, around corners, through walls even at high noon in bright daylight. Now you can deploy a wireless flash system wherever you want, without infrared limitations, in seconds.

Use the MiniTT1 for standard triggering with any PocketWizard Receiver including the FlexTT5, PlusII or MultiMAX. When used this way with a digital camera, you can take advantage of PocketWizard’s HyperSync Technology that allows up to 1/500th of a second camera sync with many camera/strobe set-ups. HyperSync allows you to advance the timing of your flash trigger so that faster than X-sync speeds can be achieved. Need more speed? Push your ControlTL system beyond 1/500th and go into FP/High-Speed Sync mode automatically. No buttons to press or settings to change other than your shutter speed will give you flash sync all the way to 1/8000th.

A new PocketWizard Utility program is provided to support the MiniTT1 via a USB port. The Utility allows you to configure your channel settings, dial in your HyperSync timing, adjust your sleep-mode timers and update your product to the latest firmware.

I needed something to lift my flash sync speed up and beyond 250th and this does exactly that. It seemlessly links in with my other Pocket Wizards and fires every time

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This system is great and so convenient that my flash now lives in the bag with a TT5 attached, rather than being put onto the camera. The TT1 is nice and compact, but they're so easy to leave switched on by accident, that the TT5 with it's AAs might be better for some

Purchased with two Flex TT5s, both of which have been on windswept stands (bring more sandbags...) that have fallen over and contined to work without problem. They also work on AAs, not hard to find button batteries. On the upside, this unit is tiny, fits nicely on the camera and is very unobtrusive.Did work fine with supplied battery, but having recently replaced the battery on this, have found it has been unreliable in triggering the Flexes. Thankfully I have backup but this is not what one expects from PW. Will try factory reset to see if it makes a difference. Have also heard shooting in 14bit RAW can cause sync problems with this unit, however this worked before my battery change. Do not expect problems from the industry trigger leader, especially in a unit costing nearly [$]. The whole point of these is to increase photo flexibility, not limit shooting options!PW had issues before releasing these units - perhaps not everything was ironed out, but I keep the faith they will rectify with firmware updates. Soon, hopefully. Get another Flex instead - bigger but all told is much more useful.Would also have been nice if the AC3 was included in the price with this. The Mini does not really justify its own price tag, and the zone control is an integral part of this system.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

        Buy a flexTT5 instead

        By mlphoto

        from UK

        Pros

        • Small size

        Cons

        • Button cell battery
        • Very poor battery life

        Best Uses

I bought this in the package with two TT5s and wish I hadn't. I'm lucky if the battery lasts 1 wedding and there are no rechargeable options so it's £3 a time plus the uncertainty of when it will die. [...]The range is also lower than the flexTT5 and it's pretty cheeky PW didn't build in the zonecontroller functionality into it given the importance of this in the system.Buy another flex instead, yes it's bigger and more expensive but definitely worth it for taking two AA batteries.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
