The massively long range Sigma ultra telephoto 150 – 500mm is just the ticket for capturing nature, sports and subjects that are just too far away to be able to real impact by filling the frame with the subject. Sigma uses the smart Optical Stabilisation to offer an equivalent of using a shutter speed approximately 4 stops faster. This means tha you can use the super zoom hand-held without getting blurred images caused by camera shake. This lens also incorporates the super quiet Hyper Sonic Motor for high-speed autofocus, and as this is working internally, so the manual-focusing ring remains motionless. Compatible with Sigma APO Tele Converters, this lens effectively becomes a 210-700mm F7-8.8 or a 300-1000mm F10-12.6 ultra-telephoto zoom. A removable tripod collar is included as standard. Photography reviewers and birdwatchers agree that this lens is superb with the overall image sharpness to the edge of the frame, the optical Stabiliser system and value for money being highlighted by What Digital Camera. Incorporated with SLD Glass
Three SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements provide excellent correction for chromatic aberration. This lens is equipped with the rear focus system that minimises fluctuation of aberrations caused by focusing. It provides optimum image quality throughout the entire zoom range. The super multi-layer lens coating reduces flare and ghosting. High image quality is assured throughout the entire zoom range.
Minimum focusing distance of 150cm
The minimum focusing distance of 150cm throughout the entire zoom range and has a maximum magnification of 1:4.2 make it useful for close-up photography.
Compatible with Sigma APO Tele Converters
The addition of the (optional) 1.4x EX DG APO or 2x EX DG APO Tele Converters produce a 210-700mm F7-8.8 MF ultra-telephoto zoom lens or a 300-1000mm F10-12.6 MF ultra-telephoto zoom lens respectively. A removable tripod collar (TS-31) is included as a standard component.
Detachable tripod collar
A removable tripod collar and matched lens hood is included as a standard component.
Sigma’s DG lenses are designed for cameras with a full-frame sensor, but cameras with a cropped sensor can also take these lenses. These are large-aperture lenses with wide angles and short minimum focusing distances. With an abundance of peripheral illumination, they are ideal lenses for Digital SLR Cameras whilst retaining suitability for traditional 35mm SLRs.
OS (Optical Stabilizer)
This function utilises a built-in mechanism that compensates for camera shake. It dramatically expands photographic possibilities by alleviating camera movement when shooting hand held.
HSM (Hyper-Sonic Motor)
This lens uses a motor driven by ultrasonic waves to provide a quiet, high speed AF.

Good at what I bought it for - wildlife
About Me Hobbyist/Enthusiast
Comments about Sigma 150-500mm f5-6.3 APO DG OS HSM Lens - Sony Fit:
bought for the 300-500mm telephoto range for wildlife photos, and works well. Despite the size and weight the lens isn't difficult to use as it is well balanced on my Sony A550 and the tripod mount makes a useful hand grip at times.

Really impressed since purchasing this product. Pictures have been pin sharp and the only slight downside I can think of is that it is slightly heavy when using it but if you buy a lens of this size then that's to be expected.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
About Me Casual user
Would recommend this lens for anyone who is wanting the extra distance. I mainly use this for aircraft photography at first i was unsure of the slightly heavy lens attached to the camera but carried it about all day at an airshow without any issues and soon got used to the weight

Bargain at the Price But Needs Support
from South Wales
Bought this product for use with my Sony a65. Any fears over non-compatibility were unfounded as the product supplied by Wex had been converted for use with the SLT models. I've used it for sport and predominantly wildlife and the results are consistantly sharp and bright. I recently spent an hour following a wild otter with my Sigma 150-500mm Lens with the camera set on 10fps and the majority of the shots are excellent with little lens distortion, vignetting etc. The only draw back is the weight. I have used the lens "Hand Held" but the results we slightly blurry make long spells of use very tiring. However this is easily overcome by the use of a Tripod/Monopod so its not really a big issue. Overall I would definately recommend this product to anyone who wants a quality product to give you extra reach at a very reasonable price.

Big Beast Now
About Me Semi-Professional
Purchased this lens specificaly for Airshows,[...] Have since used it at a couple of airshows and done some wild bird photography, I must say this lens is now the bargain of the century, results are excellant. Opened up the image is sharp and the bokeh is good, stopped down the image is superb for a zoom lens of such a wide range.

I have used this lens a few times for wildlife shots which have been great. Recently, I went to an airshow, WOW the results were fantastic, although there were a couple of occasions when the autofocus could not catch up with the fast jets.I have taken some of my best ever shots with this lens, even handheld the shots are sharp, just build up your biceps if you intend to hand hold for long periods.I use a Sony Alpha 350
