The long range Sigma ultra telephoto 150-500mm is just the ticket for capturing nature, sports and subjects at a distance. Sigma uses the smart Optical Stabilisation to offer an equivalent of using a shutter speed approximately 4 stops faster. This means that you can use the super zoom hand-held without getting blurred images caused by camera shake. This lens also incorporates the super quiet Hyper Sonic Motor for high-speed autofocus, and as this is working internally, so the manual-focusing ring remains motionless. Compatible with Sigma APO Tele Converters, this lens effectively becomes a 210-700mm F7-8.8 or a 300-1000mm F10-12.6 ultra-telephoto zoom. A removable tripod collar is included as standard. Photography reviewers and birdwatchers agree that this lens is superb with the overall image sharpness to the edge of the frame, the optical Stabiliser system and value for money being highlighted by What Digital Camera. Incorporated with SLD Glass
Three SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements provide excellent correction for chromatic aberration. This lens is equipped with the rear focus system that minimises fluctuation of aberrations caused by focusing. It provides optimum image quality throughout the entire zoom range. The super multi-layer lens coating reduces flare and ghosting. High image quality is assured throughout the entire zoom range.
Minimum focusing distance of 150cm
The minimum focusing distance of 150cm throughout the entire zoom range and has a maximum magnification of 1:4.2 make it useful for close-up photography.
Compatible with Sigma APO Tele Converters
The addition of the (optional) 1.4x EX DG APO or 2x EX DG APO Tele Converters produce a 210-700mm F7-8.8 MF ultra-telephoto zoom lens or a 300-1000mm F10-12.6 MF ultra-telephoto zoom lens respectively. A removable tripod collar (TS-31) is included as a standard component.
Detachable tripod collar
A removable tripod collar and matched lens hood is included as a standard component.
Sigma’s DG lenses are designed for cameras with a full-frame sensor, but cameras with a cropped sensor can also take these lenses. These are large-aperture lenses with wide angles and short minimum focusing distances. With an abundance of peripheral illumination, they are ideal lenses for Digital SLR Cameras whilst retaining suitability for traditional 35mm SLRs.
OS (Optical Stabilizer)
This function utilises a built-in mechanism that compensates for camera shake. It dramatically expands photographic possibilities by alleviating camera movement when shooting hand held.
HSM (Hyper-Sonic Motor)
This lens uses a motor driven by ultrasonic waves to provide a quiet, high speed AF.

About Me Semi-Professional
Comments about Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM - Nikon fit:
Bought this as I wanted a big lens for Wildlife photography and general use as I get fed up carrying spare lenses and fiddling about changing them. So bought this beast, yes its big and heavy but I expected that but on first outing on a D700 I was amazed, later after an upgrade to the D800 it still provides excellent clarity and is a real workhorse. Its covered wildlife, country walks, music festivals, the moon and most impressively the Moto GP, its almost that holy grail of lenses the one that can do anything, but not quite. For festivals and gigs I carry the 50 - 500 and an 18 - 36 on separate bodies to cover everything. So why no 5 out of 5? well on occasion I have had a little trouble with it focus hunting, certainly not a massive issue but enough that on occasion a little annoying, however this truly is an awesome lens all the more awesome for the price.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I would definitely recommend this lens
About Me Hobbyist/Enthusiast
I bought this lens mainly for nature photography and straight away you notice it's well packed in its padded carry case and feels solid and well made. I have only used it a couple of times and was very impressed with with it's fast focusing and it's sharpness. It did start to make my wrist ache after a while , but that's to be expected with the size of it, but the tripod collar definitely helps you hold it firmly and helps balance it hand held. Overall very impressed, but I haven't used it in dull lighting conditions, as I luckily had fantastic weather on both occasions! For the money it cost, I am very pleased with my purchase.

"I would recommend this product"
I had been looking at this lens for a while to try wildlife etc.to go with my Nikon D7000. After reading other reviews I decided to buy it. It took a couple of day to get the feel of it. It is heavy to lug about but I found it well worth the effort.Focus is pretty sharp and with stablizer on hand held shots no problem even at low shutter speeds.Pictures are crisp and clear for a lens of this price.Glad I bought it can't put it down.If you want a long lens and budget is tight I would say go for this one.

Really happy with this lens, I was surprised how good the VR is on this lens, hand held shots I didn't think possible come out really sharp. Focus is fast on my Nikon D7100 and my D200. Got some great shots already, looking forward to using this lens in the future. As always great service from Wex.

Great super zoom lens for the money
I purchased this as an upgrade to my 120-400 lens, I use a Nikon D7000 & this is a perfect partner for wildlife shots which I'm keen to really get into. The crop factor on my camera gives me a 750mm equivalent which I love. When used with a monopod the OS system works really well for good results at lo wish shutter speeds, so far with care I've had some great shots at as low as 1/60...At this early stage I've not encountered any issues with it at all, time will tell if this is still the case after a few more sessions. Thus far I'm only full of praise.

Really pleased with the lens. The reach and focusing speed over my Nikon 55-300M is really impressive. I use the lens mainly with a monopod with a b/s head and have been really pleased with the results. I find a rucksack that takes the camera with lens attached plus the monopod strapped to the outside very useful. Only dislike is the lens hood which seems a little fragile - particularly the mechanism for attaching it.

Big lens - good performance
Due to weather conditions, have only managed out with the lens on a couple of occasions photographing birds. It's a bit heavy, certainly but what else do you expect from a lens of this size. Carrying it in a rucksack while moving caused no problems. I used it on a monopod while shooting and found I could use it and handle it quite easily. I found it focused quite quickly and the results I got were perfectly good. Hand held didn't provide any great problems either although I only used it this way for a short time. So far haven't come across anything that I would class as not great with this lens.

It is an all round super lens, cannot understand how anyone can complain about the weight of such a high quality "robust" zoom lens.
