The Sigma 17-70mm f2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM Lens Canon Fit is an all-purpose, standard zoom lens specifically for digital SLR cameras with an APS-C sized sensor. The Sigma 17-70mm offers everything from sweeping landscapes to stunning portraits, while keeping the size of the lens compact and easily portable. The Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) ensures quiet, accurate and fast autofocusing while the OS (Optical Stabiliser) compensates for camera shake when shooting by hand. The construction of the 17-70mm includes new TSC material (Thermally Stable Composite), which allows for increased durability as well a reduction in size by 30%. Two FLD glass elements, which have performance equal to fluorite, are incorporated with one SLD element to reduce colour aberration at the highest degree. The lens offers a large f/2.8 aperture at 17mm wide angle making it a great low-light performer.

Comments about Sigma 17-70mm f2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM Lens - Canon:
I shoot local burlesque shows and as I'm on a budget I wanted a good replacement for the canon 18-55mm kit lens, this fitted my needs perfectly. It's now my main lens and is pretty much on the camera all the time. It may not be up there with the canon brandd equivalent but I've taken some lovey shots with it and for the price you really can't go wrong.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

great upgrade from a kit lens.
This lens is a great upgrade from a kit. Although not a metal body it has great build quality. As expected on a lens within this range the mount is brass not plastic as most kit lenses are so will wear much better. The weight is good, not light but certainly not too heavy. The zoom action is very smooth and has just the right firmness to it. Beautiful bokeh at 17mm f/2.8. The bokeh remains pretty good at 70mm f/4 also. Great advantage of f/4 at 70mm. The image contrast is sharp throughout the focal range. I had read in some reviews the image from this lens can be a little soft at 17mm but that is really clutching at straws. If this lens is next from a kit you will not be disappointed. The image stabilization works well. The only downside I could say is despite the AF motor being 'hyper sonic', meaning it should be fairly quiet the motor can be heard quite clearly during video.

Great upgrade to standard kit lens
By Astro Snapper
I'll keep this short and sweet. It's a great lens and far superior to the standard kit lenses. The wider aperture is extremely useful for it's light gathering ability.Good quality and reasonably compact and light.

Good but not at 17mm
While a good all round lense which works well in low light, it really isn't that great for wide angle landscape shots. Colour fringing is a real let down, but then it is built to a price and technical reviews of other lenses suggest that this problem is common. The fact is though at wide angles it is no where near as good as my Sony RX100. In the end it is such a useful range, it is a shame that Sigma haven't tried harder to create a product that can deliver a better result. Ultimately a F 2.8 across the range and no CA would be well worth paying much more for.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Sharp and Solid
By raider 99
Very impressed with this lens. Used it on a recent holiday to Southern Italy. Took some great photos of Pompeii and Vesuvius. Perfect zoom range for this holiday with no distortion or CA. Every photo was sharp. Well balanced on a Canon 700D and looks great. Can't really fault it except you have to be careful not to catch the focusing ring with your fingers when it's auto-focusing.

It's a lovely little lens, real value for money i have been looking at 2.8 lens for quite a while and as I'm just starting in the professional world funds were limited. I am very pleased with the lens good clear photographs its not to heavy and performs well.
