Excellent Optical Performance
It is the ideal lens for several type of photography such as wide-angle, telephoto and close-up. SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass, a molded glass aspherical lens and two hybrid aspherical lenses provide excellent correction for all types of aberrations.

HSM
An inner focusing system provides high performance and convenience. The non-rotating lens barrel perfectly suits the matched petal-type lens hood (supplied) and circular polarising filters.

Close-up photography
This lens incorporates HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor), which ensures a quiet and high-speed AF as well as full-time manual focusing capability.

Zoom lock switch mechanism
A zoom lock switch mechanism is provided to prevent the lens from creeping due to its own weight.

I bought this lens before departing to the Rocky Mountains USA to use for wild flower and landscape images. I used it 90% of the time and took some 6+GB of memory card on "fine" for plant images and habitats. I only resorted to a Sigma 70mm 1:2.8 DG Macro for very close up shots of small alpine plants. I found it versatile, easy focus and I am very pleased with the images. A good investment for general use.
A little heavy for carrying climbing and hiking especially with the Macro and a tripod.

Looking for a lens that stays on my camera 95 percent of the time and this is it. From landscape to portrairts and most general shots this lens covers it. Fast focusing no distortion.
