Please Note: This model is now discontinued and a new version is now available: Sigma 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 II DC OS HSM Lens - Canon Fit.This Sigma 11.1x high zoom ratio lens is designed exclusively for Canon digital SLR cameras and incorporates Sigma's original OS (Optical Stabiliser) function. The Sigma 18-200mm lens is equipped with Sigma's own OS function which uses two sensors inside the lens to detect vertical and horizontal movement of the camera, and works by moving an optical image stabilising lens group to effectively compensate for camera shake. It also automatically detects movement of the camera and compensates for camera shake when shooting moving subjects. More
A Special Low Dispersion (SLD) lens and three aspherical glass elements provide excellent correction for all types of aberrations and produce a high level of optical performance throughout the entire zoom range. The super multi-layer lens coating reduces flare and ghosting. It also produces an optimum, neutral colour balance.
The Sigma 18-200mm lens has a minimum focusing distance of 45cm (17.7”) throughout the entire zoom range and a maximum magnification of 1:5.3, making it very convenient for taking close-up pictures.
An inner focusing system provides high performance and convenience. The non-rotating lens barrel perfectly suits the matched petal-type lens hood (supplied) and circular polarising filters.
A zoom lock switch mechanism is provided to prevent the lens from creeping due to its own weight.

Sigma 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 DC OS Lens
By Happy Snapper
About Me Hobbyist/Enthusiast
Comments about Sigma 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 DC OS Lens - Canon Fit:
I purchased this lens in replacement for my Canon 18/200mm because it was faulty and would have cost an arm and a leg to get it repaired.Since purchasing this lens I found it to be comparible to the Canon at a fraction of the price.I use this lens as my working lens and find it well built and more robust than the Canon. For the focal length of the lens I found it very compact and easy to hand hold.I now own two Sigma's and looking to buy another at the right price, which would replace yet another Canon.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

My go-to lens
from Tyne and Wear
When you need a lens that covers pretty much all eventualities, you can't go wrong with this one.It gathers the light in so that low-level ambient light is no problem. Mine is a bit old now with a great deal of use and I've noticed a little lens creep developing. It's only a minor problem and only at extreme upward/downward angles. If you just focus and shoot, it's not noticeable and there's always that handy little lock button. It seems to be the weight of the glass versus the smooth, unclunky action that has led to it, and as I say, not a real difficulty. For crisp, beautifully finished shots, it's still perfect. I use it a lot for portrait and also for landscape, architecture, wildlife, flora, still life... Everything I don't need greater telephoto to shoot! In macro use, and to a lesser extent in wider angle shots, it produces the most beautiful bokeh and depth of field making it perfect for wildlife and flora. This was the lens that introduced me to the Sigma brand and I'm smitten. In like-for-like shots versus professional level lenses, the results are comparable if not often better. This lens in particular is the most versatile in my growing collection and I will buy the same one again should I need to replace it. The ideal go-to lens.

My expectations were too high
Maybe I expected too much for this price but I am disappointed. The sharpness of the image is not as good as the kit lense supplied with my Canon EOS450D. Macro seems fine but I had hoped that I would achieve quality pictures, but I am alarmed that my wife using a basic Lumix is achieving better colour rendition and sharper pictures.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Best Purchase Ever
from Manchester, UK
This is an excellent lens for everyday day use. The zoom is fantastic for many shots where you want to frame and compose your photography. The lens is surprisingly good when it comes to macro photography and the more you zoom the softer the background becomes. With the previous kit lenses I have owned the build quality of this lens is in a league of its own and the lens hood is a great way of protecting the lens from dust and scratches. The Image Stabilization is particularly helpful when the lens barrel is at full zoom. Overall I highly recommend this lens!
I bought this lens to replace my canon kit lens and Sigma 55-200, this lens has the added bonus of OS which I think was well worth it. Used on Canon 20D
Good alround lens for walkabouts etc
Ok this lens isn't going to beat L lenses or primes but it goes all the way from 18mm-200mm with a fairly good image stabiliser. I use this lens a lot when I want to take the SLR but don't want to carry everything with me and it's fine. I would always take a few safety shots anyway regardless of what lens I use. The Auto focus is fairly fast but some times searches a bit in low light probably due to it being f/6.3 at the long end and build quality isn't bad at all. At the extreme edges of the frame there is a bit of softness but If you want a super zoom I would recommend this as If you want L quality and covering this range you are going to have to spend over £1500 on 2 lenses.
Bought this lens for my daughter to go with my old 300D for her birthday and used it on a resent holiday to scotland ( Poor light, rain, cloud, indoor etc) got a shock to the quality of this lens in all areas, sharp, good colour, fast and reliable focus. I highly recommend this lens for a keen amateur that wants 3-4 lenses in a signal unit like for traveling light.Very Good finish. Stabilizer works well. Smooth focus and Zoom ring. Light for the amount of glass and physical size. You get what you pay for and quite a bit extra well done Sigma! This is a great lens and thats coming from someone that only uses expensive Pro lenses!

I also discovered that the lens tuner on Canon DPP will work on this lens but only on RAW files.Of particuler interest is the distortion correction feature
from Manchester UK
One lens for all ranges, a great solid lens, the optical stabiliser is a must, it reduces lens shake, specially good for fast moving subjects.

POSSIBELY THE BEST
from Tadley Hampshire
I brought this lens to go with my Canon 450D, after reading many reviews and would say they understated this lens.If you want a good alli-rounder at the right price this is the lens for you.
