With an abundance of peripheral illumination, they are ideal lenses for Digital SLR Cameras whilst retaining suitability for traditional 35mm SLRs.
HSM (Hyper-Sonic Motor)
This lens uses a motor driven by ultrasonic waves to provide a quiet, high speed AF.
The exterior of this lens is EX-finished to denote the superior build and optical quality, and to enhance its appearance.
IF (Inner Focus)
To ensure stability in focusing, this lens moves the inner lens group or groups without changing the lens' physical length.

About Me Semi-Professional
Comments about Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 IF EX DG HSM - Canon Fit:
Works really well as a replacement for the "standard" 18-55mm Canon lens on a 7D. Much better in low or variable light conditions. It makes a great partner to the 70-200 f2.8 Sigma.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

About Me Hobbyist/Enthusiast
Getting into landscapes and find it fits the bill perfectly. my gear is Canon EOS7D, to buy the Canon equivalent would haveset me back another grand (out of the question) Holds focal length without drift and produces excellent results. It may be a bit heavy for some, but I don't have a problem with it.Not having Optical Stabilisation is not an issue even hand-held. Tough/well constructed lens I would buy again
A good performer against its competitors

I purchased this lens as a backup for my Canon 24-70, the Sigma was significantly cheaper so I thought I would give it a try - it seemed a pro lens for the price would be a good investment.I was quite impressed with this lens, quick and sharp focussing with consistent results. The only negative points for this lens are its weight, the motor is quite a lot louder than the canon equivalent and its huge 82mm filter size (which makes filters for this lens very expensive). All in all I am very impressed and happy with the savings made against the canon version as this is effectively a back up lens.
Great lens. Fast and accurate focus, and photos appear lovely and sharp.

Use this lens for taking pictures of martial arts and of my children. It does a great job even in low light

About Me Professional
I had two of these little beauties and as much as I loved the design I was extremely disappointed with the focusing. Both of the lenses I had suffered with terrible back focusing. Tried on two pro Canon bodies with micro adjustments set to +20!!! ans still soft at 50-70mm, on wider setting 24 to around 40 focus was slightly sharper.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Surpassed all expectations

I bought this lens after I was dissapointed with my existing 24-70. The other lens, even though it was sent to the manufacturer to be re-calibrated is now redundant and that's testament to how good this lens really is. It has not let me down and that's important when you're shooting things like weddings. The build and the results achieved are excellent. It's physically slighter than my old lens but somehow manages to carry a hefty 82mm filter, which might be a downside for some with a collection of filters. The only other issue is the manual/autofocus switch which portrudes slightly from the barrel.
