I bought mine secondhand elsewhere, but it deserves a few words here as it has quickly become my favourite lens!

This lens replaced my cheap (but reasonable) Nikon f1.8, and it's better in every respect, from build to image quality. It's as sharp as a very sharp thing, even wide open, and throws the background wonderfully out of focus at 2.8. The macro function is just as impressive, rendering true 1:1 reproduction and, again, crisp and sharp images.
In all the images I have taken I have not seen any evidence of fringing.

The only down points are the whiring noise when focusing, due to no inbuilt HSM, and when the lens hunts it does so through the entire range which takes some time before it returns to where the focal point really is. There is a 'Full/Limit' selection switch to try and combat this, but in my experience it doesn't work particularly well. The hunting ussue only occurs in very low constrast situations, so has only reared it's head on the odd occassion.

All in all a fantastic lens, and well worth the price over the Nikon f1.8 for the macro function and built quality it offers, you won't be dissapointed.

This is my favourite lens, I often use if for portraits and macro photography or where detail is essential. This lens produces very sharp images, very accurate focusing. It is a true macro giving 1:1 images as well.

Only downsides are needs camera motor, so is a noisy focus and can hunt in some situations.
