Key features

DG
Sigma’s DG lenses are designed for cameras with a full-frame sensor, but cameras with a cropped sensor can also take these lenses. These are large-aperture lenses with wide angles and short minimum focusing distances. With an abundance of peripheral illumination, they are ideal lenses for Digital SLR Cameras whilst retaining suitability for traditional 35mm SLRs.

New coating reduces Ghost and Flare
The new multi layer lens coating and lens design reduce flare and ghost, which is a common problem with digital cameras and also creates an optimum color balance through the entire zoom range.

It is equipped with three pieces of SLD glass for high image quality
This lens has two SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements in the front lens group and one in the rear lens group, the lens has excellent correction of chromatic aberration through the entire zoom range.

Macro shooting with maximum magnification 1:2
High optical performance is demonstrated throughout the entire zoom range. It also has a switch that converts the lens to macro photography at focal lengths between 200mm and 300mm with a minimum focusing distance of 95cm (37.4 inches). In normal mode the minimum focusing distance is 150cm (59.1 inches) at all zoom settings. Maximum magnification between 200mm and 300mm is 1:2.9 to 1:2.

Comments about Sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6 Macro DG Lens - Canon Fit:

The Sigma offered the best value in magazine reviews (even lower costs at Warehouse Express) and offers good basic facilities for the amateur/newcomer who wants to expand their experience.
A little old school, you may eventually want to replace it for something more current but you'll enjoy it in the meantime.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6 Macro DG Lens - Canon Fit:

I bought this lens for a family member who has just upgraded to a digital SLR on the strength of my 8 years experience with an earlier version of this lens used on both film and digital SLRs. I was happy with my "DL" lens until I saw this one - same good optics and feel but slightly lighter and an improved "feel".
Definitely an essential purchase to complement the 18-55mm standard lens.
Optical performance may be a little lower than the Canon lens, but given the price difference it's not a worry unless you are a professional photographer.
Definitely recommended - and a steal at this price.

      Value for money

Comments about Sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6 Macro DG Lens - Canon Fit:

The Sigma 70-300mm lens is an all round good value for money lens. I purchased it as a second lens for my Canon EOS-1000D and I have to say it has become my lens of choice. Close up macro work is very clear and the versatility of 70-300mm is very handy. Build wise it is sturdy. Remember to line up with the white dots not red dots because it is not canon. Overall very impressed.

      brilliant first zoom lens

      By jarnii

      from bucks

Comments about Sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6 Macro DG Lens - Canon Fit:

i have been using this lens for a while and have been really happy with its performance. the price was brilliant for what you get in this lens. this isnt the best lens on the market but for my first zoom lens to get me into the swing of things it has been a real find. the clarity in the images that can come from this are amazing and expected alot less from the results than what i have actually got. the only down points are the switch that goes from macro to normal is really stiff and u have to apply some pressure to move it. you can also tell that the lens is not top of the range with some of the photos with sharpnes but it has amazed me with what is possible with this lens. for the money you cant go wrong. excellent buy....

      Value for money

      By Digger

Comments about Sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6 Macro DG Lens - Canon Fit:

As a newbie to the DSLR world I recently purchased a Canon 1000D so as to introduce myself to the digital world at a reasonable budget, the same reasoning was applied to buying this lens....I didn't want to attemp to run before I could walk!
I'm very pleased with the lens overall but will probably upgrade to a more expensive Canon lens when I have gained more experience.
The service from Warehouse Express is first class.
