The Sigma 8-16mm f4.5-5.6 DC HSM Lens is an ultra wide zoom lens with a minimum focal length of 8mm, designed specifically for APS-C size image sensors, where it gives focal lengths equivalent to 12-24mm (35mm format) and an angle of view of approximately 114.5- 75.7 degrees. The Sigma 8-16mm features 4 low dispersion glass elements to compensate for colour aberration, while one hybrid aspherical lens and two glass mould elements give excellent correction for distortion and astigmatism. The Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting while superior peripheral brightness ensures high contrast images throughout the entire zoom range. The Sigma 8-16mm f4.5-5.6 DC HSM Lens incorporates an inner-focussing system and a Hyper Sonic Motor, ensuring quiet and high speed AF as well as full-time manual focus capability. With a minimum focusing distance of 24cm throughout entire zoom range the 8-16mm lens allows the photographer to emphasise the subject by creating exaggerated perspectives.

The right choice for super-wide

Comments about Sigma 8-16mm f4.5-5.6 DC HSM Lens - Sony Fit:
Never bought a Sigma before, and I had read that some of their wide-angle lenses felt a bit cheap. Pleased to say the 8-16mm looks and feels like the reasonably premium lens that it is. Nice and weighty, smooth focus and zoom rings, and a very snug fit to my A700 a-mount.All lenses are compromises. This give you a very wide angle 8mm view the zooms in to a useful 16mm. Thats a great range. The compromise is simply on the aperture which, at f4.5-5.6, is very average when you see many similar-priced wide angle zooms with f3.5 or f2.8 - but they don't give you that sweet 8mm.So, for my needs (landscape and interiors) it is the right spec at a pretty good price.Only negative I've found (which may be due to the aperture) is the auto focus: It can end up hunting three, four even five clicks to get focus in medium-low light. The HSM makes each click quick, but then there's a brief pause between clicks, so net effect is slow focus. And the HSM, while fast, isn't much quieter than my screw-drive lenses[...]
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
