The Skywatcher 1.25 Inch Variable Polarising Filter is a high quality anodized aluminium, optical glass variable polarising filter designed to reduce the amount of light entering your eyepiece. You can progressively dim the view when observing a bright object, such as the Moon or certain planets, to a level according to your needs, whilst increasing contrast, reducing glare and increasing the amount of detail that can be studied. A fine replacement eyepiece

I lost the original eyepiece from my D700, fumbling for the eyepiece shutter lever in the dark with gloved hands. Given the choice between the standard and magnifying eyepieces, I'm glad I spent the little extra - but if you still have the standard eyepiece, it might not be worth the upgrade unless you have a specific need.

The magnification works well, and doesn't introduce any colour fringing. The corners of the rectangular image just start to impinge on the circular edge of field, but it's quick to get used to, and the modest increase in magnification is welcome. The viewfinder on the D700 is quite bright, and the loss in light intensity from the magnification is not noticeable.

It also fits much more securely than my original eyepiece ever did, and stands a few mm prouder of the camera back than before, which makes it more comfortable to hold up to the eye. I don't wear glasses, but the eye relief seems similar to the stock eyepiece, so I would not expect any adverse effects for those that do.

All in all, a fine replacement for a lost eyepiece, and it may be worth an upgrade even if you still have the original.
