The Sony NEX-7 digital camera extends Sony's remarkable 'mirrorless' range which combines the capability of Digital SLR technology with convenient interchangeable lenses in a neat, ergonomic design that's portable and practical. The 24.3 megapixel camera packs a neat pop-up flash, comfortable hand grip and a super fast release time lag of 0.02 seconds. The NEX-7 is equipped with a re-designed Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor usually found inside a DSLR to ensure an extremely fast performance, sharp quality and low noise images, allowing you to work in all shooting conditions at great speed. Featuring simple finger tip control, the Sony NEX-7 has advanced sophisticated touch screen allowing you to simply flick through your images. Combined with this advanced technology is Sony's OLED viewfinder and powerful BIONZ processor which ensures excellent performance and even higher quality of stills of 10 frames per second and high quality HD video recording with stereo sound. Comments about Sony Alpha NEX-7 Black Digital Camera Body:
Coming from a Nikon E8800 bridge camera from 2004 ,using the Sony Nex 7 is a bit of a revelation.Fantastic resolution with a multitude of options for taking pictures which can be bewildering a bit for a novice.I bought David Busch's book on the Sony Nex 7 and this has proved very useful and has shortened my learning curve re mastering the various controls of the camera.I bought the Zeiss 24mm,1.8 and the 18-200mm LE zoom to go with the camera which i'm sure has helped grab the quality of image i have been getting, even though the weather has hampered the amount of photos i have taken. All in all thrilled with this camera and can't wait for some sun!!!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Innovative design and high resolution.
About Me Professional
Great design. Well built, my only slight concern is the battery cover that does not seem to match the robust construction of the rest of the camera, especially given its price, but this is common with most manufactures. The SDHC card is a little fiddly to remove also. The sensor can give great results, but needs high quality lenses. Sony need to produce some small high quality primes for it (in black) please. This is my travel light camera that gives me the same sort of results as my full frame Sony a900 DSLR. I also use it with other lenses with NEX adapters.

Sony NEX-7 almost perfect
About Me Hobbyist/Enthusiast, Professional
I have used the Sony NEX-5 for over a year but found using the LCD screen to manually focus almost impossible. Additionally the lose flash resulted many missed shots or using daylight. When the NEX-7 was introduced it corrected all the issues I had with the NEX-5. The included viewfinder can be a little strange because you feel as though you should be looking at a natural view. Since this camera has no mirror you are actually looking at a small monitor which duplicates the LCD and this starts when the eye is up close. The viewfinder can also replay images which is great in a bright light situation. The flash works well for snaps but there is a shoe to add a larger one if you require. At the moment I use the NEX-7 as if it was an NEX-5 and am still finding my way around all the new features. One new feature I do use is the spirit-level and always have that switched on in the viewfinder. The 24MB size is not something I needed but it does help keep the image quality high when cropping. The camera is right for me but if you can manage without a viewfinder then buy the cheaper NEXs as image quality is still great! Video quality is also great as long as you solve the wind noise issue using an external mic or internal mic covers.

The good the bad and the NEX-7
By Grumpy Old Man
Great idea for foreign travel, lightweight, but good quality, saves me carrying all my Canon kit, and I have a C3 for strolling around. Fit leica M fit lenses with adapter. Controls are appallingly bad. e.g the Auto focus switch has a button that allows manual focusing. However you have to keep your finger on the button while moving the focus area, looking at the screen, turning the focus ring on the lens! On page 27 they tell you how to do this, but why not have it as a default. Sony lens choice limited, but that is due to change. There does not appear to be a cable release. I would recommend it, but only to experienced photographers who want a small camera producing good quality results.
