The Sony HVL-RLAM is not a Ringflash in the true sense of the word as it uses LED technology rather than a flash tube. Designed specifically for use with Sony digital SLR's the output can be controlled using either the left or right side of the unit or the whole area. Ideal for close-up or macro work with an effective working distance of between 0.1 and 0.5m and an output of 150lux at 0.3m. Powered by 4 AA batteries and supplied with 49mm and 55mm adapter rings.

Comments about Sony HVL-RLAM Ring Light:

It's not designed specifically for Sony cameras. It is simply an LED lamp which will fit onto any camera (thread permitting), even directly onto my old Fuji S602. The hot-shoe mounted enclosure is simply a battery box. It's useful for extreme close up macro work where you can select left/ right hand / both led segments, and low/ high power. It adds highlights to the subject but the chances are that most people can live without it.

I have owned one for several years and it has had very little use. Apart from its moderate performance I found that the strain relief moulded onto the cable at the lamp-end was too rigid and inflexible. The outer cable insulation has split from the strain relief due to (not much) flexing. It's now held together with insulation tape.

i used it and return it, is not a flash if you want to use it on potrait its annoying to use for the model face , macro has no power not good results
