value for money, but don't use wide open

About Me Semi-Professional
Comments about Tamron 10-24mm f3.5-4.5 Di II LD AF SP Aspherical Lens (IF) - Nikon Fit:
Plus points are it seems to be good value for money. It allows me access to very wide angle photography relatively cheaply. Good for interiors, landscape and special wide views.Negative points are slow and noisy focus - Landscapers however may not find this aspect an issue if they are meticulous in set-up. Biggest downside is that, wide open, the lens is soft in the middle, and very soft in the corners. The lens is capable of fairly sharp pictures, but you must stop down quite a bit, where you sacrifice shutter speed. Build quality is ok - it's not going to fall apart in a hurry, and is fairly easy to use and attach. It is also reliable and easy to clean. I have had mine for well over a year on a D80 and then a D7000 and used it a fair bit, nearly always on a tripod, and it has always functioned well. However, if you are contemplating a lens in this very wide focal range for DX, there are alternatives out there from independant makers for not much more money.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Good value but don't use it wide open!
This lens is very soft when used wide open. The build quality doesn't match up to my other Nikon lenses, the auto-focus is slow and far from silent, and it has possibly the most useless lens-hood ever invented.Having said that, the subject matter this lens lends itself to requires a lot of DoF and doesn't move so these issues are largely negated.I LOVE the prespective it gives you at 10mm and it represents good value. It pretty much permanently lives on my D300 and I can't think what I'd replace it with if I had to.
