Designed for digital full-frame and APS-C format Sony DSLR cameras, the Tamron 150-600mm f5-6.3 SP Di VC USD lens is a telephoto zoom with versatile focal range, Vibration Compensation and Ultrasonic Silent Drive. This powerful lens enables you to capture the wildlife close up in detail or at a distance in its natural habitat, without disturbing its activity. Tamron's image stabilisation system (VC) and Ultrasonic Silent Drive allows you to shoot crisp images of fast-moving, distant subjects handheld and is suitable for a wide range of applications, including sports, wildlife, travel, and portraits. Advanced optical technology
Three LD (Low Dispersion) elements are effectively deployed to correct chromatic aberrations, a challenging problem when shooting at long distances and at long focal-length settings. Tamron‘s eBAND Coating and BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) Coating help suppress flare and ghosting for class-leading image quality.
New eBAND (Extended Bandwidth & Angular-Dependency) Coating
This new coating technique developed by Tamron deploys a nano-structured layer (1nm = 1/1,000,000mm) of ultra-low refractive index, with dimensions smaller than the wavelengths of visible rays of light. This nano-structured layer coupled with the sophisticated multiple layer coatings underneath, yields significant anti-reflection properties, efficiently reducing undesired flare and ghosting to an absolute minimum to deliver sharp, crisp images.
VC (Vibration Compensation)
VC (Vibration Compensation) is Tamron’s proprietary image stabilization system. Tamron’s VC is a three-coil system, whereby three driving coils activate the shake-compensating VC lens group electromagnetically via three ceramic ball bearings.
The VC lens elements are held in place only by contact with the ceramic ball bearings, achieving smooth movement with little friction. And since the VC mechanism is moved in parallel using only the motorized control, the mechanical structure has been simplified, enabling the development of a more compact lens.
Compact and stylish
While covering a very wide range of focal lengths, this lens is remarkably compact and accepts 95mm filters. Its stylish design with signature Tamron tungsten silver finish and elegant brand ring incorporates a sturdy tripod mount to enhance both stability and ease of use.
Moisture-resistant construction helps prevent moisture from penetrating the lens.
Digitally Integrated Design - A Generation of lenses designed for optimized use with digital SLR cameras (APS-C format and full-frame) by means of superior designs and multi-coating techniques. The same outstanding performance is also achieved with conventional cameras.
SP - Super Performance
Tamron´s Super Performance series is a line of high performance lenses featuring high design specifications.
USD ( Ultrasonic Silent Drive)
Tamron’s USD works with high-frequency ultrasonic vibrations which are produced by a ring called a ‘stator’. Energy from the vibrations is used to rotate an attached metallic ring known as a ‘rotor’. Piezoelectric ceramic, an element that produces ultrasonic vibrations when voltage of a specific frequency is applied is arranged in a ring formation on the stator. This electrode configuration of piezoelectric ceramic causes two ultrasonic vibrations to occur in the stator. By effectively combining these two ultrasonic vibrations, it is possible to convert the energy from the vibrations that produced simple motion into energy known as ‘deflective traveling waves’, which then moves around the circumference (rotation direction) of the ring. With the USD, the friction between these deflective traveling waves created on the metallic surface of the stator and the surface of the rotor produce force, causing the rotor to rotate. The focusing ring of the lens, which is linked to the rotor, is thus moved, creating a fast and smooth auto-focus drive.

About Me Hobbyist/Enthusiast
Comments about Tamron 150-600mm f5-6.3 SP Di VC USD Lens - Sony F:
Pre ordered and waited 6 months for delivery - Tamron's fault, not Wex ! As soon as it was released in the UK I got a phone call to confirm order and it was with me the following day. Great service.I bought this lens for wildlife photography and it has not disappointed. I make my remarks purely on the images obtained. If you need figures on spherical abberation, fall of at edge of field, chromatics etc then you will need to consult a technical review - for my use I don't find these aspects a great differentiating issue with any high end lens, which this is.In use, yes it is heavy - I would be wondering why if it were not - but, even at 600 I have had no great problem with hand held shots. For more prolonged use I coupled it with the Manfrotto 393 Long Lens Monopod Bracket ( a joy to use - a 600 lens which can be controlled one handed. Get one ! ).Initially I found AF and live view was causing me great problems due to the magnification ( I am more used to setting up macro photo's - not with this lens of course). Once I got used to spot focus and OVF the problems were solved. The AF response of the lens being very good.I was a little concerned when reading reviews before I bought this lens that at 6.3 this was only be of use for wildlife in bright sunshine - I now suspect that the reviewer was reviewing from specs and had not actually taken any shots with it.I think I understand 'bokeh' (well, as much as I understand the off-side rule) and get some very pleasing effects with the back ground to a very sharp central object.A final observation - keep that lens hood on. That lovely big objective is very exposed without it.Overall, as a purely amateur user who isn't going to be spending several thousand pounds on gear, I have had great satisfaction from this lens
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
