The Tamron AF18-200mm f3.5-6.3 AF XR Di II Nikon fit is for exclusive use with digital SLRs. Tamron's original development of proprietary core technologies such as Aspherical element production, Multiple Cam Mechanism and Integrated Focus Cam design lend to the creation of the world's lightest, most compact 11.1X zoom lens made for digital SLR cameras. More
Dedicated for Digital SLR Cameras - By incorporating an optical design for exclusive use with digital SLR cameras with smaller-size imagers, this high power zoom lens provides the same focal length, when converted to a 35mm format, equivalent to Tamron's 28-300mm.
Optical System Uses Special Glass and is Optimized for Digital SLR Characteristics in order to Enhance Optical Quality in a Compact Design - The AF18-200mm features an entirely new optical design using XR (Extra Refractive Index) glass in an innovative way in order to optimize the overall distribution of optical power throughout the entire zoom range. This design reduces various aberrations to the absolute minimum and achieves remarkable downsizing at the same time. In addition, three hybrid aspherical lens elements and two LD (Low Dispersion) glass elements are used to accomplish effective compensation of chromatic aberrations, a critical factor to enhance the optical quality in digital photography. As a result, the lens provides outstanding optical quality in a multi-purpose zoom lens.
Optical Design Dedicated to Digital SLR Photography by Optimizing the Angles of Incidences of Light Rays Reaching the Image Sensor - The zoom lens uses a new optical system designed to confine the changing angles of incidences of light rays reaching the imager within a certain scope over the entire image field from the center to the periphery, by considering the effects of variances due to zooming.
Enhanced Peripheral Illumination - Peripheral light fall-off is minimized when compared with that of conventional lenses for film cameras so that images are uniformly bright from the center to the periphery.
Outstanding Resolution - Since the lens is designed exclusively for digital SLR photography, it provides high image quality in terms of resolution, contrast and flatness of image field.
Internal Surface Coating to Reduce Ghosting and Flare - Internal Surface Coatings and new multiple-layer coating technology have been used in order to minimize reflections that occur when light enters through the front element and to reduce image degrading effects caused by the imagers themselves.
Revolutionary Minimum Focus Distance - 0.45m (17.7") for 1:3.7* Macro Capability - The new 18-200mm zoom lens realizes an MFD (Minimum Focus Distance) of 0.45m through the employment of a new optical/mechanical design configuration. Since the maximum magnification ratio at f=200mm is 1:3.7, you can enjoy close-up photography easily and conveniently.
Zoom Lock Mechanism Incorporated - The Zoom Lock prevents unwanted barrel extension when carrying the lens/camera combination.

A Great Travel Companion

About Me Hobbyist/Enthusiast
Comments about Tamron 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 AF XR DI II - Nikon Fit:
I needed a lens to take away on a trip abroad, and was reluctant to pack my Nikon lenses to save weight on the flight and space! As a travel companion, it fitted the bill just fine, and in most situations coped very well. There are a few limitations with the speed and focusing at the higher end, but not that you would really notice unless I had the lenses left at home to do such a check. The object was to enjoy the trip, and come back with a few memories, and this lens enabled me to do just that, without having to carry more than I needed, and to switch to a shorter lens when the situation may have called for it.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Nice light weight holiday lens
Nice light weight lens for holiday use. Saves carrying lots of weighty lenses, and gives good quality results.

A good buy
from West Midlands
A good lightweight product bought specifically for its weight and focal lenght range. The auto focus responds well. The lens has only been used for a month but I have not noticed any problems yet. Principle use is landscaping in remote mountain/hill regions.
If you're considering it - get it!

About Me Semi-Professional
My daughter bought this as a 'do-it-all' lense because of her budget. I compared it to my Nikkor 18-55 & 55-200 lenses and on the whole this lens produces better results! It's noisier focussing but that's worth putting up with - this lens is great value for what it does and how it compares to others. I'm now jealous of my daughter!

this lens is the business
Using on a Nikon D5100 and the only thing missing is the shake control (VR I think), Have done about 300 shots and it performs as well as a more expensive lens on my other camera. Comparison shots done in the 18-55 range against the a 'kit' lens and it was just as good.Never chanced Tameron before but will look for it for next lens.

Great Lens at a Great Price
I bought this lense as replacement for my 2 kit lenses! I was aware of the lense creep, and the need to use the lock when the camera wasn't in use! Yes it's a con, but something that doesn't really detract from the overall lense quality, price & use.I'm very impressed with the quality of the pictures produced, and I think this is a great lense for someone who has an interest in photography but doesn't necesarily have the financial means to purchase something that is on a par with proffesional kit.I like it, and I'm very happy with my purchase.
