Tamron 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 XR DI II Lens - Canon Fit Further Details

Tamron 5 Year Warranty

Tamron 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 AF XR DI II main features

Dedicated for Digital SLR Cameras - By incorporating an optical design for exclusive use with digital SLR cameras with smaller-size imagers, this high power zoom lens provides the same focal length, when converted to a 35mm format, equivalent to Tamron's 28-300mm.

Optical System Uses Special Glass and is Optimized for Digital SLR Characteristics in order to Enhance Optical Quality in a Compact Design - The AF18-200mm features an entirely new optical design using XR (Extra Refractive Index) glass in an innovative way in order to optimize the overall distribution of optical power throughout the entire zoom range. This design reduces various aberrations to the absolute minimum and achieves remarkable downsizing at the same time. In addition, three hybrid aspherical lens elements and two LD (Low Dispersion) glass elements are used to accomplish effective compensation of chromatic aberrations, a critical factor to enhance the optical quality in digital photography. As a result, the lens provides outstanding optical quality in a multi-purpose zoom lens.

Optical Design Dedicated to Digital SLR Photography by Optimizing the Angles of Incidences of Light Rays Reaching the Image Sensor - The zoom lens uses a new optical system designed to confine the changing angles of incidences of light rays reaching the imager within a certain scope over the entire image field from the center to the periphery, by considering the effects of variances due to zooming.

Enhanced Peripheral Illumination - Peripheral light fall-off is minimized when compared with that of conventional lenses for film cameras so that images are uniformly bright from the center to the periphery.

Outstanding Resolution - Since the lens is designed exclusively for digital SLR photography, it provides high image quality in terms of resolution, contrast and flatness of image field.

Internal Surface Coating to Reduce Ghosting and Flare - Internal Surface Coatings and new multiple-layer coating technology have been used in order to minimize reflections that occur when light enters through the front element and to reduce image degrading effects caused by the imagers themselves.

Revolutionary Minimum Focus Distance - 0.45m (17.7") for 1:3.7* Macro Capability - The new 18-200mm zoom lens realizes an MFD (Minimum Focus Distance) of 0.45m through the employment of a new optical/mechanical design configuration. Since the maximum magnification ratio at f=200mm is 1:3.7, you can enjoy close-up photography easily and conveniently.

Zoom Lock Mechanism Incorporated - The Zoom Lock prevents unwanted barrel extension when carrying the lens/camera combination.

Comments about Tamron 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 XR DI II Lens - Canon Fit:

For the price it has very durable build quality with a nice smooth zoom action. I found it slow to focus compared to other lenses I've used but you soon get used to its foibles. Performance in low light is not fantastic but with practise some very good results can be obtained!

Comments about Tamron 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 XR DI II Lens - Canon Fit:

I purchased this len as I wanted one lens that does everything, without having to change lenses all the time. This lens was affordable and was adequate for what I wanted. I've read reviews that say you lose quality for the convenience, but in my mind I cannot tell the difference between the shots I get from this and the ones from my standard kit lens. Occasionally it struggles to lock onto the subject when focusing, but turn to manual and problem solved. This is however very occasional! In all, I'm happy with this lens and its working wonders for me. I have lent it to a friend in order for him to try out and I'm happy to recommend this lens.

Comments about Tamron 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 XR DI II Lens - Canon Fit:

For the price of this lens I can only describe it as a little Gem. I'm lucky to use Canon L series lens and these produce excellent results, but I wanted a light weight super zoom for travel and after reading a few reviews I decided to take a punt on this little Tamron.
I've got to say for the price of a cheap compact you can't expect perfection but this lens does give good results and I'm finding it great for travel and days when you don't want loads of kit weighing you down.
It's quite light and plastic but seems well enough built and feels like it'll take a bit of abuse. So overall I'm very happy with my purchase.

Comments about Tamron 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 XR DI II Lens - Canon Fit:

I was looking for a lens to save me from always finding I had the wrong lens for the shot I wanted. My primary uses are general photography, but also motorsport and architecture. My first usage has been at Snetterton, where it was faultless - decent zoom, quick autofocus when needed, and the lens seems well built. It certainly proved useful not having to worry about which lens I had on (I also use a Sigma 50-500 lens for long length shots).

Overall I'd recommend this lens, and for the money I think it's superb (the Canon equivalent is more than twice the price, and then you have to pay another £50 for a hood!).

Comments about Tamron 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 XR DI II Lens - Canon Fit:

This lens is the one I use the most, at least 75% of the time this is the one I use. I have Canon primes and macro lenses and other sigma and a 70-300 Tamron, they are all great but the Tamron 18-200 is so versatile and tack sharpe it is my preferred piece of kit.Things that aren't great about it, nothing that sinks my boat. Great gear.

              Generally ok

              By canonslr

Comments about Tamron 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 XR DI II Lens - Canon Fit:

Great for day to day use, but I think it's fair to say that you get what you pay for.

Being able to have one lens on all the time and cover both ends of the range is a definate bonus. However, without image stabilisation it is difficult to keep an image sharp at long range.

Once or twice it's struggled to focus and therefore won't take the picture unless in manual mode. Unhooking the lens and sliding it back on again fixes it... a bit concerning.

              Lens Review

              By canonuser

              from Dorset

Comments about Tamron 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 XR DI II Lens - Canon Fit:

I have used this lens on a couple of outings. Principal reason for purchase was the zoom range, ie one camera body with one lens attached (for when carrying loads of kit isn't an option) and cope with (nearly) every situation.

Images obtained at each end of the ranges were good. Good value for money lens (no I haven't zoomed into the minute detail of the lens and compared it against my other lenses). I have looked at the images obtained and judged them simply by looking at them - I have cropped and processed several on my computer - all results were good.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
