This is a new zoom lens from Tamron that lets you bring your far away subjects up close while compressing the distance between the main subject and the background for professional-looking results. Even while covering up to a 500mm that enables you to take ultra telephoto shots of subjects further than the eye can see, its design is extremely lightweight and compact. When mounted on an APS-C size digital SLR camera, it provides a focal length equivalent to a 760mm for super ultra telephoto imaging.  More

Comments about Tamron 200-500mm f5-6.3 SP AF DI Lens - Nikon Fit:

This is probably one of the least expensive ways of getting to a 500 mm. telephoto. The downside being you realy need a monopod/tripod and a sunny day to get the best out of it.Handheld shots are not impossible but require a little care, the biggest problem is the slow AF,so small birds in flight are tricky. So if you want top quality images and fast AF save up you money for the nikon alternatives. That said if you can get round the shortcomings it is good value for money.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Tamron 200-500mm f5-6.3 SP AF DI Lens - Nikon Fit:

It doesn't have VR, but is lighter than the Sigma equivalent which my chum has. I use it with a D300 for life in a Land Rover or Toyota Land Cruiser on Safari for Birds and Mammals. Hand held at anywhere between ISO 800 to 3200 on shutter priority for max shutter speed, depending on light, I have been most impressed with results. I know the price has gone up a bit due to the pound flooring it, but its still good value, even though you will need an 86mm UV to protect the front element. And leave the lens hood behind on your travels, it nearly doubles the lenghth of the lens, you simply don't need it. AF is not as swift as Nikon, but not far off. I focus at 200mm which is swift and then zoom to 500mm before getting cracking shots.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
