Tamron 70-200mm F2.8 SP AF - Sony Fit Lens Further Details

This lens enables the user to cover a focal length range of 70mm medium telephoto to 200mm telephoto when mounted on a 35mm full-size DSLR camera (109mm to 310mm equivalent* on a DSLR camera equipped with an APS-C sized image sensor).

Size & Weight
The Tamron 70-200 f2.8 lens is extremely compact at just 195mm long and 89.5mm diameter with its advanced optical design keeping weight down on the lens itself to a mere 1150g.

One-touch Auto/Manual Switchover Mechanisms
The models for Nikon and Canon cameras can easily and quickly be switched between Auto and manual focus simply by sliding the focus ring back or forwards. (Sony and Pentax systems require AF/MF switchover operation on both the camera and lens).

Whilst in Autofocus the IF (internal focusing) system prevents the focusing ring from rotating ensuring great handling and stability at all times.

Slip the focus ring back and you are immediately in Manual Focus mode allowing you to decide exactly where you want to focus your subject to take control of your depth of field or simply to focus on a particular area of the subject without having to reframe or access alternate focus modes via your cameras menu system. The Manual focus system is well weighted and has a quick action to enable focusing from close to infinity without losing balance and stability.

Detachable Tripod Grip Ring
The lens is supplied with a lightweight and rigid aluminium removable tripod socket.

Flower-shaped Lens Hood
A flower-shaped lens hood is included as a standard accessory. The special hood provides optimum shading of superfluous light whilst allowing full use of the maximum zoom range.

Got this for my birthday - what a good purchase!I was originally put off by the [@] cynics complaining about slow AF and bad IQ, but did some research of people who actually owned the product (!) and decided to take the plunge.It is true that focus isn't the fastest thing on the planet. It takes a good while to go from closest focal distance to infinity at 200mm - but it's worth bearing in mind that in good light the focus rarely hunts, so in reality you'll never have to wait for it to go from one end to the other for focus. In reality, it is marginally faster than the kit lens.Due to the weight of the elements, there is also some focus creep in MF mode - not a major concern for me, as I'm always in AF with this kind of lens.Sharpness wide open at f2.8 isn't great, I'll be honest. From f4 upwards it is tack sharp, rivaling the Canon 70-200mm L lenses for sharpness. I can live with this, for the price: it's priced marginally higher than the Canon 70-200mm f4 L. I was considering switching platforms to get this lens, but seeing as I can get the same IQ at f4 and also have the ability to go down to f2.8 for low light shots if I need to with the Tamron, I stuck with Sony: it seemed the sensible option!Bear in mind that the step from f2.8 to f4 is only 1.2 stops - the "2" in 2.8 makes the gap seem larger than it actually is - so in terms of bokeh there's not a whole lot of difference between the two apertures, considering it's a tele lens. This means I can happily shoot at f4 without sacrificing bokeh, which is great news. Oh, and the bokeh on this lens is gorgeous! (See attached photo.)Not a perfect lens, but a great buy if you can live with its soft points (pardon the pun).

I didn't have money to buy Sony own 70-200 but I really need 2,8 aperture lense. Price was really cheap, so I decide to try this lense.

It was huge surprise when i got this lense. It was sharp, it works fast enough for me and it was easy to use.

It's perfect lense for me, I shoot whit it in figureskating European Championships and I have to say, i love this lense.

I don't know how it works with canon or Nikon but if i compare this lense to Canon 70-200 and Sony 70-200, it's the winner. I really recommend it.

This lens does not have an ultra sonic motor so is rated in the mags as the best in class for optics but slow and noisy in operation. However, the Sony Alpha cameras use the camera motor instead of a driver in the lens. For this reason I bought it instead of the Sigma.
I use it with a Minolta 700si, a Konica Minolta 7D and a Sony Alpha 700 and find it excellent. The optics are superb and the AF as good as I any lens I use.
The only drawback is the lack of a focus limiter but I use the MF/AF toggle, a quick hand focus and then release the toggle when needed. The balance of the lens is excellent and I have a Manfrotto QF plate on the support ring which is great when hand held.
