The 200-500mm Super Telephoto lens features a detachable filter effect controller (FEC) which enables easy control of the PL filter even when the hood is attached, and a removable tripod mount. To meet the needs of both silver-halide and digital photography, the lens features Di (Digitally Integrated Design), the designation Tamron puts on lenses featuring optical systems designed to meet the performance characteristics of digital SLR cameras as well as film cameras.

Having used this lens on a A700 for nearly a year now,it really was a good choice for birds of prey, and other wetlands dwellers.
If your interest lies with this type of photography,then go for it!
Not being a fan of telelenses with a showy silver or light grey barrel [no names!], it will not draw attention amongst the ner do wells amongst our population.

I researched this lens for many months before i brought it and ive got to say im very impressed with it. It works well in low light conditions and the pictures are sharp. The autofocus is fast and responsive and the colour reproduction is good.
