The Canon EOS 550D digital SLR camera takes many of the features found in professional cameras and squeezes them into a smaller, more consumer friendly body. The 550D's 18 megapixel APS-C sized CMOS sensor is paired with Canon's advanced DIGIC IV image processor to give users superb image quality, unlimited creativity and Full 1920x1080p HD movie capability. The sensor and processor combination offers ISO settings of 100-6400 (expandable to 12800) and the clever in-camera noise reduction technology further improves the EOS 550D's low-light performance. Despite being considerably smaller than many Pro DSLRs, the Canon EOS 550D offers a continuous shooting rate of 3.7 frames per second and a 9 point auto-focus system, making it capable of grabbing fast-paced action shots that other cameras may struggle with.

18 MP CMOS sensor
Ideal for those who want to create large, poster-size prints – or crop images without losing any of the detail necessary for printing – EOS 550D’s 18MP CMOS sensor is outstanding in low light, and produces images with incredibly low noise.
Canon’s DIGIC 4 processor works with the CMOS sensor to deliver 14-bit image processing, for smooth gradations and natural looking colours. DIGIC 4 also powers advanced Noise Reduction when shooting at higher ISO speeds, plus split-second start-up times and near-instant image review after shooting.
High ISO for low light
When light levels fall, the EOS 550D offers an ISO range of up to 6400 – expandable to 12800 for those environments where using flash is undesirable.
Full HD movie recording
The EOS 550D combines exceptional still shooting with the ability to shoot Full HD (1080p) video. To satisfy your creativity the EOS 550D features full manual control and selectable frame rates. You can also shoot high speed 50/60fps movies at 720P for when the action is really fast. An HDMI connection allows High Definition playback of footage and images on any HDTV. Also with compatible TVs playback can be controlled using the TV’s remote control.
7.7cm (3.0”) 3:2 Clear View LCD
Detailed checks on images and video are possible with a 7.7cm (3.0”) 3:2 Clear View LCD screen, which features an ultra-high 1,040,000 dots for increased clarity. Switch to Live View mode and use the real-time visual feed to shoot from awkward angles.
iFCL metering system
A new 63-zone dual layer metering sensor analyses Focus, Colour and Luminance information, providing accurate and consistent metering.
Quick Control screen
Accessible using a dedicated button it provides easy access to commonly used functions, ensuring that you are ready to take the shot as it happens.
External Microphone Socket
Add an additional microphone for better quality sound using the 3.5mm stereo jack socket.
Shoot VGA movies with an effective zoom of 7x. Movie crop uses only the centre part of the sensor and allows long distance shooting without having to change lenses.
Create a shooting system as unique as you are
The EOS 550D is compatible with Canon’s full range of EF and EF-S lenses and EX-series Speedlites.
18-55mm lens main features
The Canon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 EF-S IS lens is a standard zoom lens. It features the smaller size image circle, especially designed for Canon EOS 20D, 30D, 40D upwards and other cameras using the "APS-C" size sensor. The focal length is equivalent to approx. 28-90mm in 35mm format. This makes this lens ideal as a basic everyday lens. This lens features Canon's optical Image Stabilizer technology, which gives it up to 3-4 stop compensation for image blur created by camera shake and slow shutter speeds. This guarantees clear, crisp images, even in dim light. It is specifically designed for digital photography, the lens has specially shaped lens elements and Super Spectra coatings to suppress ghosting and flare, which can be caused by reflections off digital camera sensors. An exclusive optional lens hood can further reduce the incidence of flare.
Technical Jargon - What does it all mean?
EOS - Stands for Electro Optical System.
SLR - Stands for Single Lens Reflex: Means the camera has one lens that is used for both composing the frame and capturing the image to memory.
EF-S - Are designed specifically for cameras with an APS-format sensor, such as the Canon 1100D, 600D, etc. Cameras that support the Canon EF-S lens mount can also take the Canon EF lens mount. The 'S' stands for 'short back focus', which means that the rear element of the lens is closer to the image sensor.
APS-C - A type of digital camera sensor with an integral x1.6 magnification factor. This means that for all lenses (Canon, Sigma & Tamron) you have to x the focal length of your lens by the crop factor, which is 1.6 (Nikon 1.5). For example - Canon 50mm x 1.6 = 80mm. For a camera with a cropped sensor the field of view you actually get is 80mm.
IS (Image Stabilizer) - Image stabilization technology allows the lens to sense movement from "shake" or vibrations and instantly apply an optical correction by moving a group of lens elements. Today’s IS systems allow photographers to shoot up to 5 stops slower with no increase in blur. Since the image is stabilised within the lens instead of the camera, the IS system can be optimised for each model. What’s more, the auto focus system has a steady image to work with and the photographer gets a steady image through the viewfinder.
CMOS - Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor – A type of image sensor used in many digital cameras.
f-number - A numerical designation that indicates the size of the aperture. It is inversely proportional; a smaller number like F2.8 is a large opening whereas a larger number like F16 is a relatively small opening.

Can I repay early? If so how?
No repayments are scheduled in the initial six-month deferral period. However, it is possible to pay off the loan, either by way of a lump sum or in smaller amounts. If the loan is fully repaid within the six-month deferral period, then no interest is payable, but a £29.00 early-settlement will be incurred. Such repayments may be made to Barclays Partner Finance by cheque, debit card or standing order. Unfortunately it is not possible to set up a direct debit within the deferral period. Further information on how to make such repayments will be set out in the loan agreement pack provided by Barclays Partner Finance.
What happens if I don't repay within the first six months (deferral period)?
Following the six month deferral period, Barclays Partner Finance will initiate a monthly direct debit payment for the remaining duration of the loan. Interest will be charged at a rate of 19.9% APR on outstanding balances (backdated to the first date of the loan). Late payment penalties and early repayment charges will apply from this point. Barclays Partner Finance will send a reminder letter approximately one month before the six month deferral period is due to elapse. Note: If you chose to spread the cost and pay monthly, interest is charged from the start of the loan, not from the start of the repayment period.
What will I receive from the finance provider (lender)?
Barclays Partner Finance will send a loan agreement pack approximately four weeks after delivery of the goods, confirming that the account has been activated and, from this point, it is possible to make repayments against the loan.
