Epson Ink Cartridges
Epson cartridges may look pretty simple, but a lot of smart technology goes into them.
Individual ink cartridges allow users to replace just the colour of ink that has been expended, rather than all colours of ink. This advantage is not always apparent in cartridge performance tests because such tests are often done with colour balanced images that cause the colours of ink to be expended evenly, while actual printing tasks can involve using one colour much faster than others. Some competitors only offer the advantages of individual ink cartridges with high-end, professional printers, but Epson offers a complete range of general purpose or photo printers and all-in-ones with individual cartridges.
The Intellidge® chip , or Integrated Circuit (IC) chip, on Epson ink cartridges ensures stable print operation by performing several important functions. The chip communicates with your printer and PC, conveying when the printer is running low on ink. The IC chip also records and communicates additional information like the approximate level of available ink and the date the ink was manufactured. The chip does not prevent users from buying non-Epson cartridges that work with Epson printers.
In addition to the IC chip, Epson cartridges include a foamless cartridge mechanism, which facilitates the most efficient use of pigmented inks. Conventional foam-type cartridges could not supply pigment ink reliably, due to the rapid rate that Epson SmartValve ink cartridge technology operates. So, as part of its SmartValve technology, which facilitates an even ink flow, Epson has incorporated a MicroPiezo ink sensor, for more accurate detection and measurement of ink levels within the cartridge.
Although Epson printers allow users to make an alternative choice, Epson recommends the use of genuine Epson ink cartridges because they are developed in conjunction with Epson printers to achieve optimum performance as part of an Epson printing system — a system that consists of an Epson printer, Epson cartridges and Epson paper. Using genuine Epson cartridges assures optimum image quality, image durability, print yields and printer reliability.
But why are quality and reliability at risk if you use off-brand cartridges and refills? Genuine Epson inks and cartridges are manufactured in clean room environments with high-technology processes that prevent contamination from dust, dirt and bubbles, as well as minute particles that could affect print quality. Extensive research and development go into Epson ink formulations and cartridge designs, so only Epson ink cartridges are specifically engineered to match the performance of Epson printers and papers. Off-brand cartridges, refill kits and refilled cartridges may cost less, but you may sacrifice cartridge yields and image durability, or risk printer reliability. Any printer malfunctions caused by third-party products are not covered by Epson printer warranties.
