Immensely capable, the PXW-100 records footage of up to 4K resolution at up to 60 frames per second to XQD memory cards. The camcorder is equipped with a 20x zoom G Lens and Sony's 8 MP Exmor R CMOS sensor and features a wide range of useful features which will aid in creating broadcast-quality material.
The PXW-Z100 uses Exmor R CMOS sensors capable of 4K resolution (4096 x 2160) at 60 fps or 50fps, while weighing under 3 kg even with a 4K-compatible high-performance G lens mounted. The recording format is XAVC, which was first used in the PMW-F55 digital cinema camera. As with the F55, 4K 60p 4:2:2 10-bit recording is possible at a high bit rate of 500Mbps or 600 Mbps. QFHD (3840 x 2160) and HD (1920 x 1080) resolutions, which have high compatibility with 4K TV, can also be selected.
For extended recording, XAVC LongGOP (QFHD 4:2:0 8-bit / Full HD 4:2:2 10-bit) and AVCHD are supported via firmware upgrades. As the PXW-Z100 can be used in the same way as conventional professional handy-type cameras, 4K content can be recorded by a minimal number of staff. In addition, during editing for a HD project, 4K source material provides significant additional creative options.
4K (4096 x 2160) 50fps or 60fps shooting
The camcorder provides good sensitivity due to the back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor. With 8 million effective pixels, the 1/2.33" sensor captures 4K images at 50fps or 60fps. The inbuilt high-performance G Lens offers maximum shooting flexibility, including a wide angle of 29.5mm (equivalent to 35mm) and 20x powerful optical zoom.
XAVC format for recording 4K /HD 60p with 4:2:2 10-bit at 600Mbps
The PXW-Z100 uses the XAVC recording format, featuring efficient MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 compression, for HD (1920x1080), QFHD (3840x2016) and 4K (4096x2160) video. Image sampling is 4:2:2 10-bit, with an intra-frame system that compresses each frame individually at a maximum bit rate of 500Mbps or 600Mbps during 4K 50fps or 60fps recording respectively and 223Mbps during HD 50fps or 60fps recording. The XAVC format is ideal for those looking to implement a high-quality, secure and worry-free workflow.
Support for XAVC LongGOP Mode and AVCHD Format
For extended recording, XAVC LongGOP (QFHD 4:2:0 8-bit / Full HD 4:2:2 10-bit) is supported from a firmware upgrade (V3.0). In addition, as a consumer friendly format, AVCHD (Full HD) is supported from a V4.0 firmware upgrade.
XQD Memory Card recording
The XQD Memory Card* is a new standard of solid state memory, which was recently defined by several industry leading companies. XQD uses the ultra-fast PCI Express interface and Sony’s unique camera processor to enable stable video recording at 500Mbps or 600Mbps. The PXW-Z100 features two XQD Memory Card slots. Multiple cards can be used in various ways, such as for relay recording. When the first card becomes full, recording continues on the second card without a break.
* XQD cards have a write speed of up to 800Mbps. The use of S Series cards with 180MB/s writing speed is recommended.
HDMI interface for 4K output and 3G HD-SDI interface for HD output
The HDMI interface on the PXW-Z100 can output 4K as a 50fps/60fps signal. When the PXW-Z100 is connected to a Sony 4K-compatible BRAVIA TV, the recorded 4K content can be displayed in 4K 50fps/60fps quality. Latest firmware provides compatibility with the new HDMI 2.0 standard and enable 4K 50fps/60fps output to a wider range of devices. Other features include a 3G HD-SDI interface that supports output to an SDI of up to HD 60fps. It also supports HD output during 4K recording.
Note: Cannot output 4K (HDMI) and HD (3G HD-SDI) simultaneously.
Paint function for more creative freedom
The PXW-Z100’s paint function enables multiple image parameters to be adjusted including gamma curve, black level, skin detail and colour. The range of settings is similar to those in the PMW-F55. Together with other setting options, parameter settings can be recorded as a camera profile onto a memory card. The recorded camera profile can then be used to set the same parameters in another PXW-Z100 to enable the matching of quality and image tones when using a multi-camera setup.
Remote control with WiFi
Focus, zoom, aperture settings and ‘record start/stop’ can be remote controlled using the browser function of a smartphone or tablet.
The PXW-Z100 is equipped with two XLR connectors, which are for professional microphones such as the ECM-680S/MS2/678/674/673/VG1 and wireless microphone systems such as the UWP-V1/V2.

The PXW-Z100 comes equipped with Timecode Input/Output connectors. These allow users to synchronise the timecode with other cameras, enabling easier multi -camera productions.

Can I repay early? If so how?
No repayments are scheduled in the initial six-month deferral period. However, it is possible to pay off the loan, either by way of a lump sum or in smaller amounts. If the loan is fully repaid within the six-month deferral period, then no interest is payable, but a £29.00 early-settlement will be incurred. Such repayments may be made to Barclays Partner Finance by cheque, debit card or standing order. Unfortunately it is not possible to set up a direct debit within the deferral period. Further information on how to make such repayments will be set out in the loan agreement pack provided by Barclays Partner Finance.
What happens if I don't repay within the first six months (deferral period)?
Following the six month deferral period, Barclays Partner Finance will initiate a monthly direct debit payment for the remaining duration of the loan. Interest will be charged at a rate of 19.9% APR on outstanding balances (backdated to the first date of the loan). Late payment penalties and early repayment charges will apply from this point. Barclays Partner Finance will send a reminder letter approximately one month before the six month deferral period is due to elapse. Note: If you chose to spread the cost and pay monthly, interest is charged from the start of the loan, not from the start of the repayment period.
What will I receive from the finance provider (lender)?
Barclays Partner Finance will send a loan agreement pack approximately four weeks after delivery of the goods, confirming that the account has been activated and, from this point, it is possible to make repayments against the loan.
