Google+ Photography Comp – Jan/Feb 2013
Natalie Williams, January 2013
Happy New Year all! I hope you’re ready for our next photography competition…
The Theme
Our third Google+ competition theme is all about Black & White, whether it’s a portrait, an architectural shot, landscape or wildlife image and everything in between – the opportunities are vast, as long as your photo is in shades of black and white. Use your imagination to show us your best 3 images that sum up what a perfect Black & White photo is to you.
How to Enter
If you’re new to Google+, it’s quick and easy to sign up, set up a profile and start sharing your photos.
Once you’re up and running over on Google+ add the Wex Photographic page to your circles.
Post up to 3 of your most relevant black & white photos by midnight on Thursday 28th February 2013 and be sure to:
- include a short caption or description
- tag your post with both our page +Wex Photographic and the comp tag #winwithwex (this step is important, it’s how we’ll track and see all the entries!)

Here’s how your entry might look once you’re ready to upload & share
If you’re entering images that are already in your Google+ photo albums, just re-share your entries to your timeline and be sure to follow the instructions above when you post them to make sure they’re tagged correctly.
The Prizes
We’re looking forward to seeing and sharing your entries along the way. This time, our top 3 favourites will win…
1st Prize: £100 Wex Photographic Voucher
2nd Prize: £50 Wex Photographic Voucher
3rd Prize: £25 Wex Photographic Voucher
If you have any questions about the competition, don’t hesitate to leave them in the comments below.

the #winwithwex does not work with me, have i done something wrong?
Hi Daniele,
Once you start typing #winwithwex, a drop down will pop out and you just need to click that, which should then link up your hastag. I’ve attached an image below so you can see what this looks like.
Let me know if you need any further help!
Thanks,
Natalie
The entry form is not working for me.
George Wood.
what size are the images to be uploaded and are they in sRGB
Tried to do this was confusing and dont really understand the google+ account it uploaded my pic 4 times and I cant find a way to delete the photos once they are on my account??
Hi Kim,
If you click on the image you want to delete, it should bring it up in to a full screen view. In the upper left corner there should be a series of small icons – one of them looks like a rubbish bin and that one is the delete button.
I hope that helps!
Thanks,
Natalie
Shame about the UK residency rule. I’m a UK expat, and regular customer, but not resident in UK at present. Would have been nice to enter!
Why have you decided to close the monthly competition to all but UK residents, shutting out hundreds of overseas contributors from 80+ countries.
First page of your announcement says ‘Eligibility: Open to all photographers worldwide’. However, when one clicks on the link to your website, under Terms and Conditions it says Open to U.K. residents only. What goes?
After many attempts to enter the Black and White Photographic competition.
I still cannot get on the site.
I did so once when I first started with WEX.
Could I enter a black and white photograph with a highlighted selection that is colour? Baring in mind 90% of the photograph is black and white.
Thanks,
Harvey Lewis.
Hi Harvey,
No we wouldn’t be able to accept a selective colour image in the Black & White competition. It would need to be 100% black and white.
Thanks,
Natalie
I have entered the B/W competition this morning – very confusing to enter especially if you’re not a ‘seasoned’ social media user! I wanted to check whether my entries have got through to you or not – you may have many entries from me as I tried many times but never received confirmation of success. So how can the entries be checked as entered?
Hi Gillian,
I know it can be a bit tricky to get used to a new social network, but hopefully you can get the hang of it soon
Unfortunately there isn’t a way of getting automatic notification that the entry has been ‘received’ but I will look into this for you. The main thing to watch out for is to make sure the tag #winwithwex is ‘linked up’ properly – so once you type the tag, it should show inside a grey box before you publish your post, which indicates it is linked. Once you have shared your post, the link should then show in blue text, which makes it searchable to us here as an entry.
The same goes for when you inlude +Wex Photographic in your entry – this should link up in the same way, except you should see our page name show in a drop down once you start typing. You can just select that and it will link it up in your post.
I hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions!
Thanks, Natalie

so how does one enter said competition if one is not able to access social networking sites? seems rather unfair
Can the photos be any size, or are there specific height and depth requirements? I cannot find any info about this in the rules.
