Building on the considerable success of the Esprit Gemini range the Bowens Gemini R range has added many additional and new features unavailable on the original Gemini monolight system. These include a new ‘patented' twin-dial power control system that offers the
accuracy of digital controls and precision adjustments, with the reliability and simplicity of analogue dials, an optional ‘plug-in' radio trigger module facility, full Infra-Red remote control capabilities, 7-segment LED display and much more. Ideal as an addition to an existing two head kit the Gemini 500R head comes complete with power lead, sync cord and modelling lamp. More

Comments about Bowens Gemini 500R Head:
After having excellent service for over 6 years from my Gemini Esprit 500s, I decided to 'upgrade' to the new Gemini 500R recently as I needed an additional head for my studio. In less than 6 months the unit started to fail, not firing several times in a row during sessions, resulting in me returning the unit to Bowens for repair. The unit had received very light usage, so I was very surprised and annoyed to be informed by Bowens that the flash tube had failed which, as a 'consumable' was not covered under warranty so I'd have to pay for its replacement. I argued my case and, on re-examining the unit, Bowens agreed that the flash tube showed very little sign of use and so replaced it free of charge, which I was of course happy about. After an indepth conversation with one of the Bowens staff, I learned that these units do not like being fired at low power. As I shoot on power position 1 or 2, this was not a good thing to learn. I was advised to not use the lower power settings without turning up the power every so often and blasting a few shots off, otherwise the flash tubes will not have a long life. My issue is twofold - firstly, why aren't customers advised of this when purchasing the lights? A helpful mention in the user guide would have been good! Secondly - my 6 year old Bowen's Esprit lights have never once had the flash tube fail - and I always used them on the lowest power settings, so I'm afraid I don't think the 500R is an 'upgrade' to my reliable old Esprits at all!
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
