High-performance, L-series telephoto zoom lens combining light weight and compactness with an f/4 maximum aperture. Inner focusing and the ring USM enable quick and quiet autofocusing. A circular polarising filter can be attached and used without difficulty as the front lens element does not rotate during focusing. The tripod collar (sold separately product number 1018072) is the same as utilised with the EF 300mm f/4L USM. Includes Canon ET-74 lens hood. More
The L-series is Canon's flagship professional lens range, representing the best in precision-designed EF optics. L-series lenses combine superior performance with superlative handling, and are resistant to dust and moisture.
A maximum aperture of f/4 is available at all focal-length settings, ensuring shutter speeds do not change as the lens is zoomed. A non-rotating front element simplifies the use of filters, such as polarisers and grads.
A ring-type ultrasonic motor drives autofocus extremely quickly, and in near silence. Excellent holding torque ensures the point of focus is reached accurately, without overshooting. Furthermore, full-time manual override is available, making it possible to adjust focus without leaving AF mode.
Super Spectra coating
Super Spectra coatings ensure accurate colour balance and enhance contrast. They also reduce flare and ghosting – a common problem caused by light bouncing off a camera's sensor.
The lens comes supplied with a lens hood and a soft case.

A very good medium zoom lens
About Me Hobbyist/Enthusiast
Comments about Canon EF 70-200mm f4 L USM Lens:
This is a well built lens and also quite light. It produces very sharp results throughout the zoom range and from wide open to fully closed. Also the length stays the same between 70mm and 200mm. I did find the autofocus a little noiser then my other lenses, but not intrusively so.I was surprised at the low price for an 'L' lens. It made me think that a Mk 2 version is imminent. But value for money it is excellent. I haven't missed IS at all yet. Very happy.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Great performance in a lightweight zoom
About Me Semi-Professional
This lens is much lighter than its f2.8 brothers, and so tends to be taken much more often. Haven't had long, but it seems to be a very solid and consistent performer. Very happy with it.

Worth the money!

Bought this more as a stopgap to fill the hole I had in my lens collection. Ideally wanted the 70-200mm F2.8 mk2 but obviously this is a lot more expensive! With the special offer and the cash back I decided to get this and haven't really regretted it. Images are sharp as I expected from this lens and the lack of IS isn't a huge issue. The only downside is that I was expecting to get a little more range from this particular lens but this is the longest lens I've ever owned then that more my fault for not testing. It's still there to fill a large gap in my lenses but it does make me realise I'll probably want something longer too :)

Another crop of a shot taken with this
Great value for the money, L build for not a lot, although the additional £125 for the tripod ring is a bit of a bind, it is on my list. Great focus, sharp as a tack and so consistent. I used it at a wedding for some candid shots for the album (three of us, all getting in each others way) with great effect. Try one if you can, you'll end up buying one.

A good investment
Bought to replace an old EF 70-210mm f3.5-4.5 USM that developed creep, for use with the EOS 7D, it has not disappointed. Took some getting used to as it is longer and slightly heavier than expected. The balance is not as good as I would have hoped. While I would have liked the f2.8 I could not justify the expense, and have not missed the extra stop thus far. It is extremely well made and very sturdy. The optical quality is first class giving good colour rendition across the whole range. Images are also sharp, especially if you can use f7.1+. So far I have not found the need for IS, but it might be useful during the winter months. The colour of the lens is a little disappointing as I still fail to see why it is cream - black is much less intrusive (probably harking back to my professional days when I did not need to be seen!). Think I may have to invest in the covers that are available, though they are relatively expensive. Still, it is a good lens and it has produced some really good results in the time that I have been using it, especially in good lighting conditions. The attached images have been cropped and had some colour correction, as well as being very heavily compressed - but not sharpened. They also started life as "jpeg", not RAW as they were experimental at that stage with a new lens. Quite satisfying, as the rig was at least a quarter of a mile away!
