High-performance, L-series telephoto zoom lens combining light weight and compactness with an f/4 maximum aperture. Inner focusing and the ring USM enable quick and quiet autofocusing. A circular polarising filter can be attached and used without difficulty as the front lens element does not rotate during focusing. The tripod collar (sold separately product number 1018072) is the same as utilised with the EF 300mm f/4L USM. Includes Canon ET-74 lens hood. More
The L-series is Canon's flagship professional lens range, representing the best in precision-designed EF optics. L-series lenses combine superior performance with superlative handling, and are resistant to dust and moisture.
A maximum aperture of f/4 is available at all focal-length settings, ensuring shutter speeds do not change as the lens is zoomed. A non-rotating front element simplifies the use of filters, such as polarisers and grads.
A ring-type ultrasonic motor drives autofocus extremely quickly, and in near silence. Excellent holding torque ensures the point of focus is reached accurately, without overshooting. Furthermore, full-time manual override is available, making it possible to adjust focus without leaving AF mode.
Super Spectra coating
Super Spectra coatings ensure accurate colour balance and enhance contrast. They also reduce flare and ghosting – a common problem caused by light bouncing off a camera's sensor.
The lens comes supplied with a lens hood and a soft case.

Very good quality and great to use

About Me Semi-Professional
Comments about Canon EF 70-200mm f4 L USM Lens:
I've owned a few L lenses but this is the first real L telephoto lens (most of the others have been wide angle). Pleasantly surprised at the speed of the autofocus and the sharp actions of the lens. It also has an excellent image quality. I mainly shoot landscape so this is a lens I won't use too often, but it's been great for some outdoor 'action' portraits and to zoom in on the detail in the landscapes. My only issue as a landscape photographer is the weight and size, it's nowhere near as portable as a 24-105 L for instance. But as I haven't owned a comparable 70-200 or similar I can't comment on it's weight in relation to other similar options.Would definitely recommend as it is a great price and the build and image quality are both excellent.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

If you are having any doubts in buying this lens, and you cant afford the IS version, get it!

About Me Hobbyist/Enthusiast
Bought as an upgrade to a Tamron 70-300 F4 -5.6, out the box the weight and solid construction are obvious. Nice quick focus producing crisp pics with my 70d. Being F4 its obviously not the lens for dark indoor shots without additoonal illumination but I'm really imnplressed so far, especially given the price.

Fantastic quality and great value
Great value, general purpose short tele-zoom. Usual L Series build and image quality yet quite light and compact. Tack sharp across the aperture range including wide open. A pleasure to use with beautifully weighted zoom and focussing rings. Focussing is fast and accurate on my 50D. No IS but doesn't really need it for what I mainly shoot (sport, wildlife and action). Just have to watch the shutter speed on dull days. I can't find anything to fault except the case is a bit rubbish and the (effective) lens hood is a bit big! Love it!

Great vaule for money
By Mike Spinks
This is a great lens without a doubt. Very well built, sharp picture and 70-200mm is a very useful focal length. Only down side is the f4 aperture. In doors without an external flash it is tricky to use. They obviously make an f2.8 which in hindsight I wish I had spent the extra cash. But for the money you wont be disappointed and for outside daytime photography you will get some awesome results.

Purchased this lens as a cheap way into Canon L series glass - and I was not disappointed. Fantastic optics and very clear photos. Use this lens a lot for portraits of family but have also got great results with landscapes and airshows.Overall a great lens that I cannot fault in any way, at a great price - go and buy one and find out!

A very good medium zoom lens
This is a well built lens and also quite light. It produces very sharp results throughout the zoom range and from wide open to fully closed. Also the length stays the same between 70mm and 200mm. I did find the autofocus a little noiser then my other lenses, but not intrusively so.I was surprised at the low price for an 'L' lens. It made me think that a Mk 2 version is imminent. But value for money it is excellent. I haven't missed IS at all yet. Very happy.

Taken with the lens in question.
Great performance in a lightweight zoom
This lens is much lighter than its f2.8 brothers, and so tends to be taken much more often. Haven't had long, but it seems to be a very solid and consistent performer. Very happy with it.

Good quality lens that can be used in all areas, whether it be Landscape work Sports/Action or Wildlife. The lens is light and very sharp, a great piece of kit for kit bag.
