High-performance, L-series telephoto zoom lens combining light weight and compactness with an f/4 maximum aperture. Inner focusing and the ring USM enable quick and quiet autofocusing. A circular polarising filter can be attached and used without difficulty as the front lens element does not rotate during focusing. The tripod collar (sold separately product number 1018072) is the same as utilised with the EF 300mm f/4L USM. Includes Canon ET-74 lens hood. As this lens features a Canon EF (Electro-Focus) lens mount, you can use this lens on a Canon full-frame camera (Such as the 1D X, 5D Mk III, 6D etc.) and a cropped sensor (APS-C) camera with EF-S mount (EG. 350D, 7D, 550D, 60D etc.). More
The L-series is Canon's flagship professional lens range, representing the best in precision-designed EF optics. L-series lenses combine superior performance with superlative handling, and are resistant to dust and moisture.
A maximum aperture of f/4 is available at all focal-length settings, ensuring shutter speeds do not change as the lens is zoomed. A non-rotating front element simplifies the use of filters, such as polarisers and grads.
A ring-type ultrasonic motor drives autofocus extremely quickly, and in near silence. Excellent holding torque ensures the point of focus is reached accurately, without overshooting. Furthermore, full-time manual override is available, making it possible to adjust focus without leaving AF mode.
Super Spectra coating
Super Spectra coatings ensure accurate colour balance and enhance contrast. They also reduce flare and ghosting – a common problem caused by light bouncing off a camera's sensor.
The lens comes supplied with a lens hood and a soft case.

Worth the money!

About Me Hobbyist/Enthusiast
Comments about Canon EF 70-200mm f4 L USM Lens:
Bought this more as a stopgap to fill the hole I had in my lens collection. Ideally wanted the 70-200mm F2.8 mk2 but obviously this is a lot more expensive! With the special offer and the cash back I decided to get this and haven't really regretted it. Images are sharp as I expected from this lens and the lack of IS isn't a huge issue. The only downside is that I was expecting to get a little more range from this particular lens but this is the longest lens I've ever owned then that more my fault for not testing. It's still there to fill a large gap in my lenses but it does make me realise I'll probably want something longer too :)
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Great value for the money, L build for not a lot, although the additional £125 for the tripod ring is a bit of a bind, it is on my list. Great focus, sharp as a tack and so consistent. I used it at a wedding for some candid shots for the album (three of us, all getting in each others way) with great effect. Try one if you can, you'll end up buying one.

A good investment
Bought to replace an old EF 70-210mm f3.5-4.5 USM that developed creep, for use with the EOS 7D, it has not disappointed. Took some getting used to as it is longer and slightly heavier than expected. The balance is not as good as I would have hoped. While I would have liked the f2.8 I could not justify the expense, and have not missed the extra stop thus far. It is extremely well made and very sturdy. The optical quality is first class giving good colour rendition across the whole range. Images are also sharp, especially if you can use f7.1+. So far I have not found the need for IS, but it might be useful during the winter months. The colour of the lens is a little disappointing as I still fail to see why it is cream - black is much less intrusive (probably harking back to my professional days when I did not need to be seen!). Think I may have to invest in the covers that are available, though they are relatively expensive. Still, it is a good lens and it has produced some really good results in the time that I have been using it, especially in good lighting conditions. The attached images have been cropped and had some colour correction, as well as being very heavily compressed - but not sharpened. They also started life as "jpeg", not RAW as they were experimental at that stage with a new lens. Quite satisfying, as the rig was at least a quarter of a mile away!

this is a great lens, i use it on a 600d and it takes your pictures to the next level, only problem is it hooks you on L series lenses. i was concerned that not having IS might be a problem but it has not been for me long as you keep the shutter speed up above the focal length and take your crop factor into account

Best value lens on the market
from Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands
There can be no argument that this lens is the best value. Its sharp, focuses fast and lightweight, if only all "L" lens were this price.
Sharp and classy
I've been using prime lenses for some time so have found this a bit of a challenge to get used to - forgetting to use the zoom! That has quickly passed, though and I find the lens sees very different from the eye, which I like a lot, particularly the foreshortening effect. The images are clear and sharp and respond well to post-processing. I love it! The only slight disadvantage is grappling with the size - while I can take shots from a distance, I do feel conspicuous when holding it... it's a girl thing.....

Why didn't I buy this earlier!
Great introduction to the Canon L range
I`ve worked full time in the photographic trade for 15 years but I`ve never really taken my personal photography too seriously until recently , I buy all my new equipment from [...] and have always used Eos ( since 1987 ) .... pleased with the results I`m getting with my new found focus on taking good pictures I decided to see what all the fuss is about with L lenses . I went for the 70-200mm F4 L USM because of it`s entry price point to the range , I didn`t see much point in spending huge money if it wasn`t going to make a huge difference to the quality of my pictures .... first impressions , BIG WOW FACTOR .... the images taken with my new lens just LEAP off my screen at me , even mundane snap shots seem to shine with quality .... I can`t believe the difference , or why I was so happy with what I was using prior to buying the lens .... I`ve got some good lenses in my bag , summer is coming , they will all getting a run out and I`ll be looking to add to and replace if they don`t match up to the L lens , if you are on the cusp of buying one of these , this happy owner heartily recommends it .
