The Canon EOS 7D v2 firmware update is now available! 07/08/2012
The Canon Press Release
Firmware v2 now offers greater control of image settings and functionality, including a higher maximum RAW burst rate, now up to 25 RAW files or 130 JPEGs. Giving photographers greater control over images directly after capture, a new range of in-camera editing functions includes processing of RAW files, as well as the ability to easily adjust white balance, sharpness and Picture Style. Enhanced control over Auto ISO levels during both still and movie shooting now allows users to limit ISO speeds to within the native ISO 400-6,400 range, perfect for manipulating exposure in different situations.
During movie shooting, amateur videographers will also benefit from new manual control of audio levels, with the ability to choose from 64 different sound levels. New compatibility with Canon’s high-performance GPS unit, the GP-E2, enables photographers to track the locations of their images using longitude, latitude and altitude geo-tagging.

Canon EOS 7D - Capture what you see
The Canon EOS 7D digital SLR features an Intelligent Viewfinder offering 100% frame coverage. For the first time, the EOS system offers 1.0x magnification, meaning photographers see a large, bright image. The transmissive LCD is incorporated within the viewfinder and allows photographers to decide which overlay feature - e.g. AF points, the spot metering circle and composition grid - is most useful to help frame the shot. The Canon EOS 7D Digital SLR is also the first in the EOS range to introduce a Dual-Axis Electronic Level (in both the viewfinder and on the LCD) that indicated both pitch and roll angles. This feature is especially useful when shooting landscapes to ensure a level horizon, or when used in conjunction with a Canon Tilt & Shift lens.
The Canon EOS 7D digital SLR has a 3" Clear View II LCD screen with a solid structure screen that has been designed to combat glare by removing the air-gap between the LCD's protective cover and the liquid crystal. Featuring a viewing angle of 160 degrees, the 3" LCD screen is effective even in bright light. An ambient light sensor on the side of the screen, like on the Canon EOS 5D Mark II, can set brightness automatically depending on the environment.
Canon EOS 7D - Be creative
An Integrated Speedlite Transmitter means photographers can control external Speedlites with no additional accessories, making the Canon EOS 7D perfect for those looking to experiment with lighting. The built-in flash has been extensively upgraded and includes both wider flash coverage for focal lengths as wide as 15mm, and manual control.
Canon EOS 7D - Customise your camera
In keeping with Canon's endeavour to make the Canon EOS 7D the perfect tool for photographers, all the features and functions are customisable to the individual photographers needs. Frequently used functions and settings can be assigned to convenient controls, meaning valuable time can be saved when shooting critical moments.
Technical Jargon - What does it all mean?
EOS - Stands for Electro Optical System.
SLR - Stands for Single Lens Reflex: Means the camera has one lens that is used for both composing the frame and capturing the image to memory.
EF-S - Are designed specifically for cameras with an APS-format sensor, such as the Canon 1100D, 600D, etc. Cameras that support the Canon EF-S lens mount can also take the Canon EF lens mount. The 'S' stands for 'short back focus', which means that the rear element of the lens is closer to the image sensor.
APS-C - A type of digital camera sensor with an integral x1.6 magnification factor. This means that for all lenses (Canon, Sigma & Tamron) you have to x the focal length of your lens by the crop factor, which is 1.6 (Nikon 1.5). For example - Canon 50mm x 1.6 = 80mm. For a camera with a cropped sensor the field of view you actually get is 80mm.
CMOS - Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor – A type of image sensor used in many digital cameras.
