Very good tripod at a very good price point
About Me Semiprofessional
Comments about Manfrotto MT055XPRO3 Tripod:
A very good stable tripod at a very good price point, certainly worth buying. I use it extensively outdoor and I carry it strapped on the backpack. Whilst not ultra light, Manfrotto has produced a low weight tripod, which folds to a compact size, with excellent rigidity to support heavy scopes, camera, lenses, definitively worth the trade off weight / rigidity. The lock in mechanism for the head needs to be screw in tight, pay some attention so that the head does not rotate. Definitively recommended!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Sturdy but far too heavy

About Me Semi Pro
This is a tripod that I do not use except at home or near the car because it is too heavy. Do not waste your money on this. Get a carbon fibre lighter tripod that is solid and you will use. The best tripod is the one that you have with you. I never take this with me and have bought carbon fibre tripods which I do use. I wish that I had waited until I could afford a lighter tripod. I wasted my money. It is just too heavy. If you have a heavy camera and solid tripod head you do not need extra weight
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Reliable and solid without breaking the bank

I use this tripod for outdoor landscape photography, macro, product shots and long exposure work and it's great for the money. It's very sturdy in construction, made from aluminium, and collapses down to a moderately portable size. Think day long hike rather than weekend long hikes, though, as it's heavier than the carbon counterpart. I invested in a tripod strap to make carrying easier. If you're planning on travelling longer distances, consider a four section tripod or a carbon fibre one, and compromise a little on stability. I wanted one to last a long time and provide complete stability, for which this is excellent. I use a heavier slr and dslr (canon EF, Nikon d200) so I'd assume more portable tripods match to more portable mirrorless cameras. The vertical arm can be made horizontal and the legs can be splayed. This is a bit fiddly to be honest, but perfect for macro shots and remains plenty stable within reason (don't over extend the arm!). I don't find the restriction to horizontal or vertical only to be a problem, as I found more adjustable ones less stable, even with lighter cameras and lenses. One thing I don't like - the bag hook. It's too small to hook anything on to it! Manfrotto, please put it on the bottom of the centre column and make it bigger. Overall though, it's built very well, isn't horribly heavy, isn't horribly big or small and isn't horribly flimsy. It's the do-it-all tripod. I will probably supplement it with a smaller travel tripod for longer trips, but this is a keeper.

Very strong, easy to use. Horizontal column works great, but don't forget to use your kit bag as an anchor!

About Me Professional
A solid tripod which is good for both photo and video work whether it is in a studio or outside. I have both the older model and now this one and they are as good as each other and will last me many years yet.
Great legs !

Brought this with the 498RC2 Ball Head & what a difference they both make (Head reviewed separately). The legs are very solid, no flex at all. The quick release catches are very simple to use & do the intended job perfectly. The main downside is the weight & size, it is quite heavy & bulky however, for me this isn't an issue as I'm not usually carrying it for miles & miles. I did purchase the tripod bag to go along with this & it does make carrying for distances a lot more comfortable. You get what you pay for & with these legs you certainly get a very good quality product that will handle everything you throw at it & still come back for more.

I have been wanting to buy a Manfrotto Tripod for 30 + years but never got round to it, as having a not too bad tripod, but I used a friends, I got one Straight away , wow you don't leave it for 30 years go and buy this one it's Fantastic, every thing you could ever want in a tripod, Versatile, Strong, and so Stable, not a lightweight, but what I call Chunky and Solid.
Great bit of kit, matched with a 498RC ball head, lovely combo. Not light, but reassuringly sturdy!
