As a first telescope this is simple to set up and operate once you've understood how the EQ mount works. I set it up the first evening I had it and sought out Jupiter. I quickly found it with the finder scope and put in the 25mm eyepiece and there it was! with more magnification I could see two of the planet's dark bands and three of its moons. The eyepieces are basic and I'm sure better quality ones will give better views. For the money, its very good value, considering that you get an EQ mount in with it. I adapted it to go onto a tripod which brings it up to a useable height.

This is not the telescope for viewing at high magnifications and you will get some chromatic aberrations, but for general viewing of the night sky you can easily pick out the major objects. At higher magnifications, the focuser is limited in its accuracy but still adequate. The focuser is threaded to take a T ring adapter so you can attach a DSLR, but without the magnifying eyepieces, you're only getting a 400mm lens. I attached a 2x converter to get good shots of the moon. Best of all, it packs away into its carry bag for transport and storage.
