HS System

The HS System

The HS System produces less noise and blur, usually a problem in low light situations. This reduces the need to shoot with flash or tripod, allowing you to capture the real, natural atmosphere of the moment.

Canon's innovative HS System represents a cutting edge combination of high-sensitivity sensor and DIGIC 4 processor working together to capture stunning images even in low light.

Whether shooting nighttime portraits against a dark background or a moving subject, indoors, the HS System makes it possible to shoot in more situations than before.

What is HS system?

Canon’s innovative HS System is a cutting edge combination of high-sensitivity sensor and DIGIC 4 processor working together to give premium image quality even in low light. This reduces the need to shoot with flash or tripod, allowing you to capture the real, natural atmosphere of the moment with reduced blur and clear detail.

High Sensitivity CMOS

Most HS System models feature back-illuminated CMOS sensors which can capture more light than conventional CMOS sensors and perform better in low light. MCMOS also enables high speed shooting features like fast continuous shooting, High-speed Burst, Super Slow Motion Movie and Full HS movie capture.

Accurate Colours

When there is not much light around, some conventional cameras can struggle to capture colours as you saw them. And if you use the flash, then colours can get washed out. HS System intelligently suppresses the use of flash in many situations by using higher ISO while retaining the accuracy of colours.

HS pixels. More than just megapixels.

Taking great images requires more than just a high number of megapixels. The ability of each pixel to capture light efficiently is vital, especially in low light where having too many megapixels won’t always help. The 10MP and 12.1MP sensors in HS System camera have larger pixels that those of similar models with higher resolutions. Bigger pixels can capture more light and this increases sensitivity.

Advanced DIGIC 4 Processing

An advanced and powerful processor is essential for great images quality. Canon’s DIGIC processor is the brain inside every Canon digital cameras, including professional digital SLRs. In HS System, a DIGIC 4 – Canon’s most advanced processor – takes the low noise image data from the high-sensitivity sensor and further reduces noise and optimises image quality, while retaining crisp detail.

Less Blur

Shooting night scenes or at high zoom without resting the camera on a stable surface can give blurred results. Because of its advanced low-light abilities, HS System can reduce the occurrence of blur even when shooting handheld.

Less Noise. Clearer Detail

When taking photos in low light, one way to get sharp results is to increase the camera’s ISO sensitivity. But high ISO can often add more image noise. With HS System’s combination of low noise sensor and DIGIC 4 processor, noise levels are reduced by up to 60% at all ISO speeds. So you can let the camera choose a higher ISO and still get great, clear shots.

Capture the ambience

Flash is often necessary to prevent blur in low light shots but it can ruin the atmosphere of a photo, resulting in pale faces and unnatural colours. Also, it can be hard for you to see the location as the background becomes too dark. HS System cameras allow you to shoot without flash, capturing the ambience of the moment exactly as you remember it.

High Dynamic Range

The increases sensitivity of the HS System cameras allows them to capture a richer range of tones and more accurate colours when compared to many non-HS System models. This picks out the detail in high-contrast situations and captures true to life colour so the image is closer to what you see with the naked eye.
